In related news to the #Tribler outage, I have started researching #torrent traffic over #I2P. #Emissary had a few missing dependencies on Alpine Linux 3.23.3, which were solvable through apk (I have this documented for anyone interested). The #qbittorrent setup was a piece of cake. Does anyone happen to know how to test that *only* I2P traffic is being sent through qbittorrent? Also unsure where to find torrents on I2P. Also, how does DNS work when using an I2P http proxy for I2P addresses?

Hours spent yesterday trying to troubleshoot why #Tribler didn't seem to be able to connect to any trackers or peers. Other torrent clients were working fine on the same device. After reading the Tribler release notes from 2025.12.16 and 2026.01.21 it appears that #InternetServiceProviders have been blocking #Tor exit nodes which restricts safer browsing / traffic on the clear net of the internet. I don't understand enough about torrents (yet) to know if it makes sense that I could have two different machines trying to access the same torrent and yet only one of them is having any success -- and, most notably, the other one isn't even copying over the content that the first one has managed to snag.
Is that just a thing that happens, when you're running Tribler behind a NAT wall? Or do I maybe have something configured wrong?

CW: Weird Tribler issue
Every time my Ubuntu Studio 2024 computer does a "system upgrade" and I reboot, Tribler pretends everything I've downloaded needs to be downloaded again.
Based on context, I can mostly assume it's not actually re-downloading everything but, whatever it is doing, relies on the availability of other seeders so stuff can get hung up indefinitely if I'm the only other seeder online for it that item.
For the bulk of what I'm seeding (example: linux mint ISOs and mediawiki zim to help provide redundancy for those projects), this isn't an issue. But Ubuntu LTS likes to do multiple "upgrades" a week so this is kind of a pain in the ass.
I'm currently on 8.0.7 (latest stable version as of 2 minutes ago) and I'm still salty about the removal of the Desktop client.

In un mondo ideale internet sarebbe un posto decentralizzato, sicuro e libero da occhi indiscreti. Per questo motivo uso Tribler https://github.com/Tribler/tribler per i miei torrent: funziona un po' come Tor, ovvero i pacchetti viaggiano tra diversi nodi della rete prima di arrivare a destinazione. Questo rende i torrent incensurabili ed è impossibile risalire ai peer reali.

Curious what #anonymous #encrypted traffic #torrent clients you #wizards use these days. #AlpineLinux still (https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/issues/16307) does not yet have a package for #tribler, which uses #tor (the #flathub version also does not work on Alpine). I'm wondering if there's something else / better for people to protect themselves.

I shouldn't have let Tribler update itself. Now it runs some flipping web server I "get" to connect to through Firefox and it's lost all of my stuff that hadn't finished downloading not to mention all the things that I was seeding. Give a try to #tribler, a #BitTorrent client with #decentralized torrent discovery and Tor-like routing!There is too few people on the network, so I think it will work better faster if more people are running it (the client works as a Tor relay for the network, not only seeding).

#Tribler nagged me to install the latest version. It also offered to take me to the download page to fetch it, but that didn't work for some reason.
I downloaded the .deb for 7.11 manually and installed it. On running, though, it just gives a segfault and dies.
I found the previous version and reinstalled that (after trying a few other things); works ok.
Ubuntu-MATE 21.10, Intel i5, 24 GB RAM

i hate how paywalled streaming services are still a thing.
on an unrelated note: #tribler seems to work pretty well for me. the builtin search is nice. and the onion rounting… hopefully works well enough? tho i think the default number of hops is 1, and i'd suggest to increase that a bit.
