  1. A question for the #BahnBubble and associated fedi #TrainGeeks I'm sure I've taken an ICE between Switzerland and Amsterdam. It was many years ago and can't remember the details. Am I imagining this? If it existed, what stock was used for the service ?

  6. Hey #TrainGeeks of Fedi (and #BahnBubble) is there any train numbered RE1 that doesn’t fill you with a sense of dread? If so… where?

  11. So, #TrainGeeks and #BahnBubble of fedi… can anyone tell me what this type of coupler is called? I’m not too fussed about the electrical connections, I am just trying to work out how the mechanical component works.

They are both on CAF-manufactured former Barcelona metro trains. The one with the electrical connections is from an FMB series 3000, and the other one is from an FMB series 1100.

These couplers are between carriages on EMUs. The actual front and rear of the train use some sort of Scharfenberg, but I haven’t managed to identify these.

  16. #DYK? You can read the train speed in real-time when you ride the Alfa Pendular train in Portugal. 🇵🇹 Another fun fact... 162 km/h is not yet considered "high speed"! 😱 In Europe, it has to reach 200 km/h on legacy infra or 250 km/h on HSR. Lost in translation (and USCS/metric conversion)? 😉 Again, we got you covered... We talk about U.S. terminology here: nap.nationalacademies.org/read. 🚄 #infrastructure #mobility #traingeeks #transportation

  21. French operator RATP announced working on a public that should open in the 18th district of Paris around 2032 to host its collection of vehicles and artifacts: francebleu.fr/infos/transports. 🚇

  22. And the week before this was posted, the Spanish government released a public consultation about the technical barriers in the Spanish #Railway sector.

There’s language in the press release and associated technical report that seems very much geared towards justifying regauging as a result of this consultation exercise.

There’s no specific question, and they only really give a month to respond, but there is a nice report attached to the consultation with plenty of juicy numbers for the #train geeks amongst us.

  32. Rail geeks of the fediverse. A little gentle nerd sniping for you.

How much energy does it take to accelerate a 6 car VIRM upto speed, Vs a 4 car VIRM?

Any idea the typical energy requirement to run a VIRM from say, Amsterdam to Utrecht?

  37. The National Railway Museum in York is a true gem. Enjoying it with my equally geeky boys. You can see the first Japanese bullet train, the Mallard locomotive, the Flying Scotsman, and assorted ephemera including allegedly a lock of Robert Louis Stephenson's hair. #nationalrailwaymuseum #traingeeks #trainspotting
