  1. I still find it crazy that we have cables running along the ocean floor connecting the entire world across continents, absolutely insane story!

  2. Democracy Dies in a Day : #Throughline 🎧
NPR discusses the coup that overthrew the Allende government and the opposition to Pinochet that eventually returned Chile to democracy. The story provides a lesson as to how quickly a republic can fall and how civil society can continue to resist and bring back the rule of law & political freedom even in the harshest environment.

  3. For anyone that wants a deeper dive, this was the subject of the first episode of #NPR's #Throughline podcast, which was heavily sourced from the book "All the Shah's Men"

  4. Looking forward to #ListeningTo #NPR #Throughline's latest episode, "Health Insurance in America", published on February 27, #2025 You can hear it here: npr.org/2025/02/27/1234145475/ :vulcan_hmn_g1:!

So the real #story of #Thanksgiving is interesting...

@npr covered this in ad episode of #Throughline

    The Mother of Thanksgiving one.npr.org/i/1214380338:12626

My feeling is that, for it to bring people together, it only works when everyone involved actually wants to get along.

  6. @jalcine

    Ditto on #Throughline from #NPR.

When I listen, the ads are only from NPR itself, i.e. other recommended programs/podcasts.

  7. #ThroughLine from #NPR is one of my favorite podcasts. In their latest episode, they cover how #fascists have gained significant political power in #Israel and how #Netanyahu has enabled this rise of fascism for his own ends.

    Definitely worth a listen…

  8. @seldo I literally just learned about this yesterday on an episode of #throughline on #npr 😂

  9. @Rachel_Thorn

    #Thanks for sharing.

This reminded me of #NPR's #Throughline episode on #tipping:

    npr.org/2021/03/22/980047710/t

"Tipping is a norm in the United States. But it hasn't always been this way. It's a legacy of slavery and racism and took off in the post-Civil War era. Almost immediately, the idea was challenged by reformers who argued that tipping was exploitative and allowed companies to take advantage of workers by getting away with paying them low or no wages at all."

Some interesting insight, via #NPR's #Throughline, regarding "creativity":

And while I'm here, thanks for keeping active on #Pixelfed, which is quite the hub of people who create.

    🖖 !
