  1. Update: Hours after King Charles' throne speech and days after Pete Hoekstra, the U.S. ambassador to Canada, said the annexation saga was "over," President Donald Trump once again referenced the idea of Canada as America's 51st state.

“I told Canada, which very much wants to be part of our fabulous Golden Dome System, that it will cost $61 Billion Dollars if they remain a separate, but unequal, Nation, but will cost ZERO DOLLARS if they become our cherished 51st State,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “They are considering the offer!”

  2. "The True North is indeed strong and free," said King Charles in his throne speech at the opening of the Canadian parliament today. This was only the third time in Canada's history a monarch has delivered the address, which is usually given by the governor general. Charles was there at the request of Prime Minister Mark Carney and referenced Canada's unique identity and a renewal of "national pride, unity and hope" in a speech that underlined the country's sovereignty in the face of U.S. President Trump's "51st state" threats.

  4. Arctic Bay is well represented at the Throne Speech. Aigah Attagutsiak is the qulliq lighter. The daughter of our dear late Qapik, she calls my granddaughter “Anaana”(mom). Eva Aariak is the Commissioner of Nunavut, and former Premier. She is the daughter of another dear late elder, Kautaq, and calls my daughter “Anaana” #Nunavut #ThroneSpeech

  5. A week from today, I fly back to Ottawa for the opening of parliament. King Charles III will deliver the Throne Speech in our Senate chamber. But what of the future of the Senate itself. We’ve had no word or signal from PM Carney on whether he will sustain the Senate reforms of PM Trudeau. This new essay, from my BC Senate colleague Yuen Pau Woo, lays out the quandaries ahead. reviewcanada.ca/magazine/2025/ #cdnpoli #SenateofCanada #Canada #ThroneSpeech #bcpoli #MarkCarney

  6. Canada’s Speech From the Throne Could Offer Clues for Future Digital Lawmaking

With the cabinet picks now out in the open, what's next to look for? That would be the speech from the throne which is the next big step.

  7. Most of my past few weeks has been shuffling around all of my work priority to make room for a #NewBrunswick #election that always seems to be looming.

If there’s no poison pill in Tuesday’s
#ThroneSpeech then I can probably relax until the regularly scheduled provincial election in the Fall of 2024.
