  1. I just rewatched "The Princess Bride", and I certainly am part of the crowd that considers the movie a masterpiece (didn't have time to write a quick review yet, will add it later).

Everything in it is just entertaining, the actors do a wonderful job and so many of the quotes deserve to be the classics they are.

Especially Mandy Patinkin and André Roussimoff (Andrew the Giant) are so lovely, but all of them are, in the end.

It's such an interesting genre mix and even the "grandfather reading the story" scenes, which wouldn't strictly be necessary for it to work, add nice heart and a lovely, warm performance by Peter Falk.

That said, especially the making of shows me one thing:

He's probably absorbed a good 40% of it via cultural osmosis, so it'll be good to put all the pieces together.

  29. I can forgive Americans writing about Europe any number of faux pas – the appearance of bluebirds, roadside mailboxes, etc. – but William Goldman’s “Sussex on the Thames” steps over the line. Fie, Mr Goldman!

Yup, still one of the best movies of all time, IMHO.

    Or should that be...ROUS?

  39. Is Wallace Shawn the Only Avant-Garde Artist Who Gets Stopped in Times Square?

“He’s most commonly recognized for his screen roles as a plotting hit man and an unlikely Lothario, but it’s his work as a playwright that shows more of his true self.”
