The moon will be full tomorrow, so the timing feels right to share what I learned while watching two Thai series from the perspective of a writer who is intentional about the names I give my characters.

First, in Moonshadow, Chan means “moon”. (By the way, the character’s twin sister’s name is Sun and Emi Thasorn does a fine job of portraying the difference in their personalities.)

Next, in Khom Khlang, Bulan also means “moon” in other Asian languages, apart from Indonesian, namely Cebuano, Hiligaynon, Tagalog, and Malay. Quite fitting for a character who is a shaman.
