  1. My Dramaland Darlings!

I need a quick pick-me-up of a genre that will have me giggling even though life is hard. Happy ending is a must. Action is fine. Romance, Found Family, and Great Friendships are highly desired.

    What should I watch?

    #Kdrama #Cdrama #Jdrama #ThaiDrama #TWDrama #TDrama

  2. I hit the wall in my #cDrama #jDrama , #kDrama and #twDrama viewing last week, and running a query on my database I found out why. Even allowing for a dozen or so shorts, it turns out I watched 66 Dramas in 3 months. No wonder I'm ready to slow down and get back to #Reading and rewatching favourite #Hindi #films Only two 10s in my Dramas so far, and one of them was not even from this century!

  3. @JillsJoy It's a Pan-Asian theme, I think. Lots of #jDrama and especially #twDrama too. It seems the discovery of carbs from cereals other than rice left a profound impact across the region. 🙂

  4. 2026 is half done, and I've watched 66 Dramas - #cDrama, #jDrama, #kDrama and #twDrama It's time for a break from reading subtitles and get back to just #Reading

The brand new integration between #Kobo and #TheStoryGraph is REALLY good and giving me the perfect excuse to tackle my TBR. Which has a certain theme at the moment. 🙂

  5. 8.5/10 for #twDrama #The GoodTheBadAndTheUgly. I ended up raising its score significantly for the way the final episodes showed the outcome for every character's choices. It wasn't about karma or punishment for those who chose to use and hurt others. Instead it just showed that decisions and choices people make through life have consequences.
I love that in the very final episode, those people whose choices were negative, and for whom the consequences were similarly negative, barely featured at all. The entire last 20 minutes was a celebration of the outcome of making positive choices. And the real-life married couple who played the leads were outstanding together from beginning to end.

  6. 10/10 for #twDrama #BreezeByTheSea - afantastic example of a remake done right. Not groundbreaking but heartfelt, with senuine emotion, smart dialogue, a focus on healing and moving forward in life.
I loved that there were several instances where tropes were played with. As when the ML kissed the Fl for the first time (with her clear IMplicit consent) and she said "aren't you supposed to ask before kissing?". Another example was PPL being openly flagged as PPL. Some multivitamin product was described by at least 3 different characters in EXACTLY the same words verbatim, as if they were reading an ad. It made me smile.

  7. #twDrama #BreezeByTheSea is the first TW remake of a #kDrama I've seen. The first #kDrama remake of a #twDrama I'd already seen was #FatedToLoveYou and I love the #kDrama remake SO MUCH MORE than the TW original. Into ep 5/18 and this one is shaping up to be the other way round.

I dropped #TopStarYooBaek, picked it up more than a year later and found it better than I expected. But this remake is AWESOME - quieter, less frenzied and with much more low-key emotion. The total runtime is only ~50 minutes shorter, but the pacing feels sharper and more lively. Plus, the fact that the 2 leads have been leads together before clearly helps with their onscreen chemistry.
The other BIG difference is geography: one BIG difference - the #kDrama set on a remote Island, the #twDrama shot on Kinmen, an island in sight of the country that almost certainly will one day invade it, as the screenshot shows

  8. 7.6/10 for #twDrama #SmallAndMighty - it got more right than wrong and the leads were good together. A more nuanced look at the interplay between law and justice than I expected. Time to watch a short #cDrama before watching Chen Bo Lin and Kuo Hsieh Fu together again in a more straightforward romcom

  9. I started a new #twDrama tonight because of its two leads Chen Bo Lin and (Puff) Kuo Hsueh Fu. I'm now into episode 3 and really enjoying it. They are working so well together that I've added another #twDrama to my PTW list, one I only found out about after starting this.

The #kDrama #TopStarYooBaek is one of very, VERY few that I have dropped then picked up again and quite enjoyed. I had absolutely no idea that there was a Taiwanese remake made in 2024 starring these two together again. If it's as good as #SmallAndMighty is so far, it should be a fun watch. Also Chen Bo Lin is as gorgeous as ever😍

  10. The FRABJOUS discovery that my instance now allows 1000 characters means I have only one thing to say to any #cDrama #kDrama #jDrama or #twDrama fan who follows me

  11. @ganbatte I've never watched any #ItazuraNaKiss - I think I was spoiled by the amazing chemistry that Ariel and Joe brought to the #twDrama versions. I did NOT like the #kDrama version, and overall my favourite riff on the idea is still the #cDrama #ALoveSoBeautiful

  12. Yep, it's official - #twDrama #FabulousBoys has the best remake opening EVAH. Hard to get a more glowing endorsement than this 😁
    #kDrama #YoureBeautiful

  13. My top #twDrama by year (total I watched from that year in brackets)

  14. Today is my East Asian Drama birthday. On May 13, 2013, I watched my 1st #kDrama , later that year my 1st #twDrama, 2014 my 1st #jDrama, 2015, my 1st #cDrama To mark the anniversary LEGIONS of my fans insisted loudly that at least some living outside my cranium would be interested, so here's my full list, chronologically

    docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d

  15. @Fanua This is my MDL review

Another excellent recent #twDrama is #ImMarriedBut starring Ko Chia Yen and Liu Yi Hao - a romcom, but a smart one. I love it's original title "Fairy Tales Part 2" - it's about what happens AFTER the fairy tale HEA

  16. The (imo) thoroughly deserved win for #kDrama #YouAndEverythingElse in the Baeksangs prompted me to me make another plug for the Drama it reminded me of. As very good as the #kDrama was, #twDrama #ImperfectUs was better still.

Also, it marked Lin Yi Chen's return to the screen after some time. An actor who made her name playing sweet, cute roles, she's now done several Dramas and movies in which "sweet" and "cute" are noticeable by their total absence

  17. @AnnaAnthro It was a very, VERY good #kDrama really solid performances and intelligent writing. I still think of it as the younger, lesser sibling of #twDrama #ImperfectUs but it is easily in my top 10 #kDrama of the 2020s. So VERY glad "let's make the psychopathic mass rapist a romcom lead" Drama didn't win

  18. After #kDrama #ProBono I completed my 5th rewatch of #twDrama #LoveTimeless. All 5 rewatches have been selective, watching ONLY the STP arc. Each time, the OTP arc troubles me but the STP move me. When you can watch a scene for the 6th time in 9 years and STILL get damp-eyed, you know it's great.

The thoroughly satisfying rewatch also cemented my plan to make this year a year of rewatches. My short PTW isn't gonig to baloon out this year, so it's time for same déjà view

  19. @EllenInEdmonton @ronsboy67 @drnya91 the only drama I watched featuring a ballerina role was the #twDrama #HadINotSeenTheSun
It's an excellent thriller drama and I'm frustrated I don't have season 2 on Netflix.
Anyway the actress clearly wasn't a real ballerina. But it's accessory to the plot, not the central theme.

  20. @drnya91 . Calling out inauthenticity is not eltism What I remember them savaging most in DYLB was the conducting. Where they got stuck into violin playing most was when assessing several #cDrama

If a Drama makes professional expertise in any field central to the story, it should make a real attempt tobe credible. For example, the #KDrama #FatedToLoveYou was a remake of a #twDrama. The 2FL was aballerina, central to her story arc. The #kDrama cast an actual ballerina, the original did not

    Day 25: Favourite Drama

A big reason I did this here & at bsky was to share less well-known Dramas ESPECIALLY as a reminder that East Asia is so much more than JUST #kDrama. #jDrama & #cDrama have SO MUCH to offer

If this one is available, I REALLY hope some try it out.
I'm into my SIXTH watch, most of the 5 rewatches have been slump-breakers to get me back into the joy of Drama-watching

    Day 24: Love Story.

This one was surprisingly easy. Many great romances in 13 years of 600+ East Asian Dramas, but this one came to mind first.
#cDrama #TheTaleOfRose is 38 eps long, time enough to fully develop a rare 30+ love story love story between the FL's brother and her boss. An arc as much about their individual personal growth as their romance

And in a Mastodon-only exclusive, the full clip of imo the most swoonworthy part

    Day 23: kiss

Another impossible category, so here's one of my earliest faves. That they were an IRL pair at the time likely helped make this so real
    #KDrama #QueenInHyunsMan

    Day 22: Character

Picking A favourite character is absurdly impossible so here are 5 leads

    #kDrama Go Eun Chan #CoffeePrince
    #jDrama Moriyama Mikuri #NigeruWaHaji
    #cDrama 2= Zhong Qing Cheng #DearEnemy Chang Yu'Er #LegendOfTheMagnate
    #twDrama Li Da Ren #inTimeWithYou

All real faves, memorable and in many cases now iconoic.

    And now the Mastodon-only bonus

#CDrama #TaleOfRose a truly memorable support character with an awesome arc

  25. chinguchallenge #cDrama #kDrama #jDrama #twDrama

    Day 21: Rewatch

Both the Dramas I've rewatched most often feature the same female lead actor, so having already featured silver-haired Gakki in my list (5.5 watches total), this time I'm going with dark-haired Gakki in #FullTimeWifeEscapist (4 watches total)
Of course, those 4 watches don't include all the times I've watched THIS 😍

  26. chinguchallenge #cDrama #kDrama #jDrama #twDrama
Day 20: Realiity show. A genre I like even less than I like anything spewed out by the Hong Sisters, so I'm going with a variety show that changed reality for my bias.
#SwanClub featured Wang Ji Won as the only one of the core cast who had ballet experience. The episode where she met up again with her senior from the KNB was SO moving. This show started her migration from acting back to ballet. 😍

    Day 19: Comfort/therapy - a field dominated for me by #jDrama -
    #ShinyaShokudo S1-3 (especially s2)
    #NekoZamurai S1-2 (SO cute!)
    #Alice-sanChiNoIroribata #HannariGiroriNoYorikoSan (a love song to Kyotro)

BUT the clear winner is a #kDrama #OneDayOff
It seems to fit the very definition of what (afaict) Koreans call "healing" - NOTHING happens and it's MAGIC 😍
(Also, imo the English title is better than the original, cf. #Doubt )
