  1. For anyone who remembers StumbleUpon, this little tool add similar functionality to your blog:

susam/wander: A tiny, decentralised tool you can host with just two files to explore the small web - Codeberg.org

  2. I miss #StumbleUpon
It was such a great way to find the wonders of the internet.

  3. I made a #firefox extension for finding random new small independent websites. I made it mostly for myself as something to do while waiting for meetings to start, but if you liked #stumbleupon back in the day give it a try. Or don’t, I’m not your boss.

  4. Am I the only person who sometimes sits at my computer thinking, There's something missing here . . . And then realizing it's the Stumble buttonl All these years later, it's still missed. #Stumbleupon

  5. mcstumble.com/ reminds me so much of #StumbleUpon, though I've not really "stumbled" upon any sites I like so far. #openweb

  6. sigh… #stumbleupon

good though it is, what this article doesn’t surface (to my eyes) is the uncanny ability that SU had to *connect* people. I made lasting friendships through #StumbleUpon, relationships which remain to this day. Huzzah!

  7. Welcome to Mastodon, @ronnieayliffe! It's lovely to see another familiar face from #Stumbleupon

  8. The links from the #fediverse reminds be of the early days of #delicious and #stumbleupon, I just found earthclock.cwandt.com/, which shows you the time with pictures from Google Earth which resemble numbers.

  9. @helgztech @Wolven I agree that we need more human-curated services and I loved both #Stumbleupon and #Digg back in the day. Within five years plan I'm working on what I like to call "human augmented" search: github.com/davidshq/next-searc

Love to hear any thoughts you might have!

  10. 🎵 this album definitely came to me via #StumbleUpon - I can't remember which track first nor, sadly, who shared it to me... but I was forever hooked and the album (long out of print) proved to be entirely up my street and has never been far from the Repeat Play Pile #SUjukebox youtube.com/watch?v=yWzS-1IWWd

  11. @atomicpoet Oh how I miss the old StumbleUpon. I lost hours there and met great people too. It's inheritor, Mix, never hit the same mark. #WebSurfing #StumbleUpon, #OldInternet

  12. @anemoi @gladsdotter - this, apparently, is how #stumbleupon made me feel (from 2007)

  13. @atomicpoet In its day, #Stumbleupon did this so well, both offering new sites and enabling self-expression. It is much missed.

  14. Oh man I just thought to myself "I wonder what happened to that website that brought teenage me so much joy and fascination (and set the tone for what the web could be) - "

The Wikipedia history section is a fucken tragedy of capitalism: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stumbl

It feels like the perfect thing for an open source and community-supported service.

  15. 🎵 Another one here that didn't come from StumbleUpon, but which certainly came from that self-same Gift Culture and actually from one of the (many) RL life friends I first met on #stumbleupon - thanks StonePoem - Meute 'You & Me' #SUJukebox youtube.com/watch?v=fKFbnhcNnj

  16. long time back this smashed me in the face courtesy of #stumbleupon and a fellow Stumbler (thanks, you) and I played it played it played it played it ... and still do - I remember a punchier mix, but this is what I found today #SUjukebox youtu.be/VbClX9AAYr4

  17. @gladsdotter aye that. all behaviours that #stumbleupon somehow encouraged and rewarded - and -connected- (but first you had to be there!)
