At RSS conference next week, I'll be talking in the 'Book Publication as a Scholarly Activity for Statisticians' session @ 11.30 on Thurs 4 Sept - which I'm really looking forward to!
Some of the things I'll be talking about include:
📖 Writing about #RStats with #QuartoPub
✍️ Working with Lara at CRC Press
📊 How it all started with some #TidyTuesday charts!(Very subtle announcement that there's a #DataViz book from me coming soon!)

If you're teaching R, or statistics, and you want your students to get more practice of data wrangling with "messy" data, you can use the {messy} package to turn the clean data you currently use for examples into more realistic looking data!

And just to show off (and get feedback), the latest thing I wrote is a game to let students play with causality and experiments... https://martinmodrak.github.io/causal-game/ (unlike my students, you shouldn't send the results for the homework assignment to me, though :D )

CW: Biostats textbook reflections
I have written a blog post with some reflections on writing a #statistics textbook for #biology and #environmental #sciences #jamovi -- https://bradduthie.github.io/blog/biostatistics-textbook-with-jamovi/ It's longer than originally planned, but it was a nice exercise to write my experience down. There are links to all relevant learning materials; feel free to get in touch. #statseducation #statsed #rstats #datascience

CW: New stats textbook with jamovi
New introductory statistics textbook with examples using free and open source #jamovi software (https://www.jamovi.org/). The book is primarily for the biological and environmental sciences: http://bradduthie.github.io/books.html -- it is freely available online with datasets and #rstats shiny apps. A print version will be available in OCT. Now that copy-edits are done, I hope to start on the audiobook soon (will also be free). #StatsEd

Educational researchers are erroneously interpreting non-significant results as the absence of an effect
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1747938X23000830
"of 528 statistically tested hypotheses, 253 (48%) were non-significant. Of these, 142 (56%) were erroneously interpreted to indicate the absence of an effect...For 97 (38%) of non-significant results, such misinterpretations were linked to potentially misguided implications for educational theory, practice, or policy."
