  1. #TidyTuesday but a day late πŸ˜‚ This was a fun map to make in #RStats and there's so much you can do with this data!! I ran out time after fiddling around trying to make a fancy subtitle with city names colored to match their nodes and edges. My dream was find the longest trail (starting from my city) from one #sistercity to its #twinnedcity but...lol...no time for that!

  6. Here's the finished version of this #TidyTuesday chart!

πŸ“Š Sunburst chart made with #ggplot2 in #RStats

  11. Thanks so much to those who joined me at the Posit Data Science Lab with Libby Heeren and Nick Rohrbaugh!

Here's what I came up with in ~50 minutes of live-coding a chart - a parameterised plot, showing which continents twinned cities are from!

A few more things I want to add: tooltips to show city/country names, dropdown to choose a country, and slightly better text contrast!

  12. I have not done #TidyTuesday for a long time, and this was both fun and challenging! Given my interest in #FiberArts I explored #yarn production in Italy, 1936-1985. Don't be deceived! The massive spike on the right is still only a tiny amount of yarn produced before and after the war #DataViz #RStats #πŸ“Š Of course, these colors are Italian flag inspired, and hopefully easily discernible by everyone. HARDEST PART: getting the magick layout right πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’« and the fonts could be bigger...next time...

  17. An annotation-heavy, faceted area chart for this week providing different ways of looking at historic ship production in Italy 🚒

    πŸ“Š Made in with

  18. This week's is all about agricultural tariffs in the USA, and I decided to focus in on tariffs on jam πŸ“

Of course, that naturally led to figuring out how to write code to plot jam jars in !

  19. Fun #dataviz for the #30DayChartChallenge Day8 Circular πŸ‘½πŸ›Έ UFO sightings around the world reported to the National UFO Reporting Center between 1926 & 2013 (total >80,000).

Reports increased since the 1990s, maybe internet made reporting easier or more happening in space? (note: that last week with fewest dots is when the year has 53 weeks which doesnt happen a lot)

  24. This week's data is all about Global Health Spending πŸ’°οΈ

I created a minimalist world map showing the percentage of health spending on preventive care πŸ“Š

Notable upticks in 2021 across many countries, higher % overall in African countries, and lots of missing data

    Code: github.com/nrennie/tidytuesday

  25. For this week's data on sea bird sightings, there was an obvious choice for which type of bird to focus on - penguins! 🐧

  27. A simple stacked bar chart for this week, looking at disparities in the number of male and female tortoises 🐒

    Made with Plotnine in πŸ“Š

  28. For #TidyTuesday I plotted the sheep population and census data from #OUrWorldinData. They better hope the sheep don't rise up. #rstats #dataviz

p.s. I could not get a @ symbol in my caption without some special text (!?)

  29. Finally getting my #TidyTuesday up for this weekβ€”featuring the new Sankey diagram I’ve added to my #Uncharted @11ty plugin.

  30. My @11ty plugin, #Uncharted, is an early WIP. Turns CSVs into CSS charts with optional animations and customizable classes. Currently supports five chart typesβ€”more to come soon (most likely as I need them for #TidyTuesday). Feedback/PRs welcome!

  31. New year, new #TidyTuesday site. I’m building this on @11ty now (like all my other websites) and developing a new plugin for generating charts. First three weeks of 2026 are up.

  34. #TidyTuesday this week is about the #FAO data for the #WorldFoodDay πŸ“Š Combining `ggbump` and a map to display a ranking, I chose to use IPC data instead and reproduce a chart by David Sjoberg. #rstats #ipcinfo #ipc #fsl #dataviz #map #ggplot2 Code: guillaume-noblet.com/TidyTuesday/

  35. #TidyTuesday a week late on Crane Observations at Lake HornborgasjΓΆn, Sweden (1994–2024). πŸ—“οΈ Used a heatmap to look at the repeated yearly spring observations 🎷 `ggbranding` to add personal branding github.com/gnoblet/ggbr... πŸ‘½ Code: gnoblet.github.io/TidyTuesday/ #rstats #ggplot2 #heatmap #dataviz

  36. At RSS conference next week, I'll be talking in the 'Book Publication as a Scholarly Activity for Statisticians' session @ 11.30 on Thurs 4 Sept - which I'm really looking forward to!

Some of the things I'll be talking about include:

πŸ“– Writing about #RStats with #QuartoPub
✍️ Working with Lara at CRC Press
πŸ“Š How it all started with some #TidyTuesday charts!

(Very subtle announcement that there's a #DataViz book from me coming soon!)
