My new print titled "Protease secreting Nannochloropsis limnetica can valorise invasive plants through circular water-use and accumulate neutral lipids" can be accessed at: https://doi.org/10.1101/2025.11.29.691304.

We demonstrate that microalgae can help circularise water-use in the LPC production process. This helps reduce fresh water consumption without affecting the yield or quality of LPC.

🚀 Our #nextGEMS overview paper is out!

After three years of intense collaboration, we’re thrilled to share a comprehensive look at what the nextGEMS project has achieved: a milestone for #ClimateModelling 🌐

For the first time ever, nextGEMS has produced multidecadal #climate simulations with kilometer-scale resolution across the ocean, land, and atmosphere, using the ICON and IFS-FESOM Earth system models. 🌍

🔹 The project unfolded over four development cycles, each releasing new configurations of ICON and IFS-FESOM.
🔹 These were rigorously evaluated at our hackathons, bringing together climate scientists, software engineers, HPC experts, and users from sectors like energy and agriculture.
🔹 By the end of the fourth cycle, we successfully ran 30-year simulations (2020–2049) at an impressive ~500 simulated days per day on the Levante supercomputer at German Climate Computing Center | DKRZ |.
🔹 Simulations reached ~5 km resolution in the ocean and ~10 km on land and in the atmosphere, offering unprecedented detail.

Furthermore, the simulations form a core building block for the Climate Change Adaptation Digital Twin in the Destination Earth (DestinE) initiative. In other words, nextGEMS' work paves the way for the next generation of European climate research. 🇪🇺

Please don't misunderstand me: I'm not saying that this is something we shouldn't do. I think it's something we have to do.

But I think the people who do #sciencecommunication need to prepare themselves for a new onslaught of weaponized stupidity.

The link above mentions how science was done more publicly during COVID. I'm sure the editors meant something different, but the entire US scientific community is being destroyed right now because of what happened then.

I like "Professor Dave" on YouTube. He is arguably the most abrasive science communications person I've come across.

I don't know if he's doing any good in general, in terms of making people less credulous and more scientific, but he does go off on creationists and flat earthers, and I just love that.

Basically he gets to say out loud what I'm constantly thinking when faced with science denial.

It's not for everyone.
