The apotropaic image of a Gorgon's head was a common protection symbol throughout ancient Greece and the Hellenistic world. This particular image was done in the Attic style, based particularly the Gorgon images found painted in kylix cups from the 4th Century BCE.

A devotional talisman featuring the panther of Dionysus. Although literary sources emphasized the panther/leopard pelts worn by Dionysus and his maenads, Attic vase paintings and both Greek and Roman mosaics of Dionysus frequently featured the god riding or in the company of a great cat (variously framed/translated by classicists as either a leopard or panther). I chose the panther for my first Dionysus devotional talisman because it is the cat, more often than the god, who has most often appeared to me in ecstatic visions.

A devotional talisman featuring the panther of Dionysus. Although literary sources emphasized the panther/leopard pelts worn by Dionysus and his maenads, Attic vase paintings and both Greek and Roman mosaics of Dionysus frequently featured the god riding or in the company of a great cat (variously framed/translated by classicists as either a leopard or panther).
