My friend is looking for some text-to-speech software to help with some reading at uni. I know a lot of people on here use screenreaders, so I thought this would be the place to ask. He currently uses Windows and iOS. He also has Linux installed on another partition, but it doesn't get a lot of use.
Any recommendations?

Going nutty, anyone know of a free (preferably open source) remote support app for android? I'm on a Linux PC but need to support an Android device in another location.
Love RustDesk but it has to be side loaded and I'll be damned if I can get remote input to work on android.

My advice:
Store your works locally (if you need a word processor, LibreOffice is good), and have a cloud backup solution for disaster recovery. (I use Backblaze, but there are many other options; you'll probably want one where you can set an encryption key so that even the backup service won't be able to read your files)
Then, regularly test your backups; go into the dashboard, check that the files you care about most are listed there, download them and check that the downloaded versions are what you expect.
Once that's in place, work out what (if any) cloud document or file sharing services you want to use for easy access between devices if you need it. For a Google Docs replacement, I'd recommend cryptpad.fr. If you want to just share the files between devices, I haven't heard of any issues with Dropbox (yet).

Does pass by Jason A. Donenfeld of zx2c4 and wireguard fame support passkeys or have an extension that supports passkeys? And does anyone have experience using a non-internet addressable private git server (local host served from a desktop) to sync to a pass mobile phone client?
I am thinking passkeys are a dead end but the I definitely need a copy of the passwords on my phone.

What do you all use as a free PDF editor/converter instead of Adobe Acrobat? I am looking for software that you have firsthand experience with. Thanks.
Edit: I am using Windows on a PC.

I’ve been using Notion for years now and would like to transition away. I have some privacy concerns and would like something available offline. I’ve been looking at Obsidian. Does anyone have any experience? I’m mostly looking for a place to keep notes for everyday living and some relational links or databases for D&D. #SoftwareRecommendations

I'm really surprised at how much trouble I've had finding a simple tool to display iCal files in a directory on my machine with a simple read-only calendar web viewer. I've looked at several possibilities and haven't found anything. OpenWebCalendar gets the closest, and I was able to modify its source so that it does what I want, but it's very odd to me that this doesn't exist already. Am I missing some commonly used solution?

My father-in-law (good with computers, but not a programmer) wants a #wysiwyg HTML editor for building websites. Anyone want to recommend one? #SmallWeb #SoftwareRecommendations
