If you are looking for electrical outlets that can be controlled by #HomeAssistant, and #HomeDepot is your best choice of getting something (I'm not suggesting that it should be, just accepting that for some it will be) they sell a brand 'X Series' set of plugs that have Matter support. They are priced comparably with the previously mentioned Hubspace devices. Obviously you need a Matter Router to work with that. Be nice if the #SkyConnect could get a useful firmware update for that.

Meine FW ist 7.1.1.0 und es gibt wohl 7.4.4.0 – aber die Upgrade-Prozedur ist mir noch nicht klar und ich habe ein bisschen Bammel davor, ob hinterher alles ist wie vorher. Denn meine 74 Geräte alle neu verbinden wäre kein Spaß …

De primeras se supone que #zigbee2mqtt es mejor que #ZHA, mas abierto, mas compatible, también expone mas cosas, etc

Por otro lado, si quiero usar Z2M debería flashear el #SkyConnect para actualizarle el firmware ya que el adapter "ezsp" que es el que funciona con mi versión del firmware de SkyConnect está como deprecado.

Y por otro lado, si muevo a Z2M, el SkyConnect entraría en uso solo para Z2M y por tanto HA no podría hacer uso de él para #Thread.

I fancied monitoring humidity around the house (we suffer from damp in some rooms) so went and did some research on zigbee sensors that worked with #homeAssistant

One of these (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004877936490.html) arrived from AliExpress today, paired straight away with my #HA #skyConnect dongle, and started logging data

I've ordered a few more now I know that this model works

It's relatively annoying that I've had to undo the #HomeAssistant core update 4 times already this month because each time it fails to keep #SkyConnect running. You remember? SkyConnect? That piece of hardware sold by HomeAssistant?

Contemplating adding a SkyConnect Zigbee dongle to our Home Assistant. Seems to be pretty ok, or at least as reliable as Zigbee in general gets. Initially just a couple of basic Aqara sensors to test with. Anything larger will need routers/repeaters for better reach.

Anyone know if Multiprotocol firmware for SkyConnect is still a testing/dev/'no support for production' state yet, or did they finally move it into a stable production release so the device can be used to work with multiple protocols in a production network? It would be kind of nice to be able to use the device as intended.

I also find the lack of device classes to be disappointing. I simply want to use my Aqara Hub and associated accessories in #Homeassistant instead, I’m using #SkyConnect and #ZHA and have accessories split between the 2.

Well, that's my shiny new #skyConnect #zigbee adapter working with my #homeAssistant #docker container. It put up a fight, but I got there in the end 😎

Ugh. I tried to replace my #Sonoff #Zigbee dongle for a #SkyConnect one, but botched the process so I broke the Zigbee network and had to rebuild. Luckily I had a backup, so I did not have to re-pair any of my devices, but I lost all the names and locations (funny enough the automations were not affected).

Kids, today's lesson is: backup your configs before making changes. 😄

Sharing my current misadventures in #FOSS #homeautomation :

Up to date #Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS (GNU/Linux 6.2.0-31-generic x86_64)
#HASS installed from Ubuntu "store."
#SkyConnect Zigbee dongle added. Highly compatible, HASS branded.

HASS sees the dongle, but can't configure it on Ubuntu.

In integrations, choose configure #Zigbee Home Automation. It can't communicate with the USB device, even though the config option see it.

Disappointed to see that #HomeAssistant still has a presence on #xitter

Well it means switching back to ZHA (not willing to deal with the 'experimental' aspect of Zigbee2MQTT), but I think after MONTHS of having it around, it's time to use my #HomeAssistant #SkyConnect

Well my #Matter over #Thread on #HomeAssistant using #SkyConnect isn’t going too well. I don’t think these are suppose to be doing this. Had issues with HomeKit and Alexa too. This stuff needs more time.

Anyone have any experience getting OTBR working with a #HomeAssistant #Skyconnect?

I dont use HAOS, so I can't just install the add-on and go to town. At the moment I just get "Failed to communicate with RCP" even though I've got the right address and 99% sure I've got the right firmware.

@kevinctofel Thanks for the mention on the podcast. Hope it helps others. Just to be clear, the original USB extension cable did come with the #SkyConnect.

I paired the bulbs in our summerhouse this morning. They are some distance away and had no issues, using the steps mentioned before.

I love the way in #HomeAssistant you can see the #Zigbee network.

Cracked it. I noticed that my USB cable to the #SkyConnect was crossing over the USB cable to the SSD. Thanks to @balloob for this video.

The pictures below we taken with my other fix. I swapped the SkyConnect cable for an old Apple USB extension cable. It is longer, also looks more shileding. It is a very old silver cable. As soon as I put the IKEA bulb in pairing mode, HA found it.

Something very odd is going on. I put the bulb in pairing mode. The lamp is about 50cm from the SkyConnect. Home Assistant didn't find it. As soon as I opened the IKEA app while the bulb was in the same pairing mode, it found it straight away. That seems weird.

The ongoing saga of getting mailbox notifications into #HomeAssistant continues. I've tried Sonoff and Samsung motion sensors with both the Sonoff and #SkyConnect zigbee bridges. In all combinations, it eventually goes offline at some point and needs to have the battery popped out to reset.

I am experimenting with a #ThirdReality motion sensor. I'm working on the assumption that using 2 AAA batteries gives the radio more juice to cover the ~60 m. So far so good.

@dustinrue @homeassistant My experience is with #ZWave devices that require a Z-Wave USB device. And with the #NodOn Micro Smart Plug, so far I have two and one act weird. The other is fine. But waiting for #Matter devices and a #skyconnect
