our power just went out (at home) & our internet also dropped – which it shouldn’t do as we have a battery backup for our #NBN NTU (#FTTP) & UPSes for router, switches, etc. 😤

I’m about to go check the #blinkenlights on the NTU to see what they tell me… (yes, some of them probably won’t be blinken 🤪)

I still have connectivity internally (for about 40 mins) but because the WAN dropped my NAS wasn’t able to send the usual email notification about the UPS switching to battery. once I figure out why the NTU failed (or possibly further upstream) I’ll make some changes to make it a little more robust if possible

I’ve recently switched ISPs, so I’ll be annoyed if there’s some fragility in their connectivity that I didn’t have with my previous ISP

The pastel shades the Squid LEDs can do are very nice, but I think I prefer straight Red, Green, or Blue, for digital stuff.

Mark Kettenis added support for heartbeat blinking LEDs based on system load averages to OpenBSD/arm64 and OpenBSD/riscv64 boards. :flan_thumbs:​

kettenis@ modified src/sys/*: Implement the machdep.led_blink sysctl on arm64 and riscv64 and add support for it to gpioleds(4). Enable gpioleds(4) on riscv64.

Similar functionality also exists on sparc64 and HP PA-RISC machines.

einen #vintage #raspi1 heute mit #nerves zum leben erweckt. ich habe einen #k8s cluster in einer alten Postkiste und der kleine #raspi soll dort die Lüftersteuerung, powercycling der nodes, LED #blinkenlights und bisschen Datensammlung (Temp, Luftfeuchte, Lufttemperatur am Eingag der Lüfter und am Ausgang erfassen und für prometheus vorbereiten). Schöne Sache, um den ersten #Pi mit ein bisschen #elixir und #nerves neues Leben zu verpassen. gerade eben zum ersten mal via #ssh eingeloggt. NICE!

A couple of days ago, all the activity lights on my Network Attached Storage box were flashing nonstop, and had been for hours, despite me not accessing it. I let it run for six hours after I turned off the computer, but didn't want the lights flashing all night while I tried to go to sleep, so I ended up unplugging the NAS, since the power button wouldn't turn it off.

Two days later I plugged it back in, and again, the lights for the four drives keep flashing nonstop. I can access the drive fine, both via NFS and SMB, and what files I've checked seem okay. But when I try logging into the Synology box via its address in my browser, my username and password aren't recognized.

As is not my wont, I left the NAS powered on overnight (putting a flap of black electrical tape over das #blinkenlights as I have on the modem), and lo, after some thirty-one hours, the lights have calmed. I presume something was wrong and it was doing some parity work, and has finished.

I don't know what it was doing because while I have data access to the drives, I have no information access. I can't log in via browser, and when I downloaded the Flatpak version of Synology Assistant and installed it on my Linux Mint system, it can't find the #NAS.

So my faith in my three-quarters-full eight-terabyte NAS is down, but I lack the drive space elsewhere to move stuff off it. Such is life.
