  1. [followup] Quoting Ze'ev Erlich: "Every place that had a Jewish settlement, no matter when, needs to be rebuilt" (Erlich before his entry into Lebanon, November 20, 2024)

This statement is quite revealing. It explicitly states the ideological justification for settlement expansion, while showing how historical claims are used to justify current territorial expansion. It also demonstrates the intention to extend this practice beyond current territories into Lebanon. Erlich reveals the broader strategy of using historical Jewish presence, regardless of time period, as justification for current displacement.

Dr. Hami Shiff wrote his doctorate on the use of #archaeology as a tool for shaping identity in Israeli society. He is the head of research at Emek Shaveh organization.

Shiff describes how archaeology has been used as a tool in the displacement of Palestinians since 1967, particularly through the establishment of settlements. Key examples include how Palestinian villages like #Susiya and Nabi Samuel saw residents removed from their homes to enable archaeological excavations. Settlements like #Shiloh were initially established as "archaeological camps."

The process typically involves declaring areas as archaeological sites of Jewish historical significance, followed by military-escorted entries into Palestinian villages.

Shiff notes that this methodology effectively transforms archaeology from a tool for studying history into an instrument for territorial control and population displacement, where findings that don't align with #Jewish historical narratives are often overlooked or dismissed, while those that do are used to justify new settlements and removals.

  2. #Analysis / Generation Z around the world sees what is hidden from young people in Israel [Or-el Tamari]

[...] The accusations that young people around the world are ignorant, and that their support for Palestinians is just a "trend" that confirms their progressiveness, are an attempt to reinforce the supposed superiority of Israeli youths, who allegedly know the Palestinian arena much better than their global peers.

[...] But before we criticize what is happening in the world, we should look at ourselves, Israelis, and see our role in Israel being portrayed globally, long before the current war, as a criminal and occupying state. We turned a blind eye, ignored Jewish-white supremacy, and did not make the connection to the regime change. We gave the green light to the ongoing occupation and dehumanization of Palestinians, which has reached disturbing dimensions in recent months.

[...] While in Israel the media largely ignores what is happening in the West Bank and Gaza, globally, and especially among youth, people see the occupation daily. On social media they are exposed to the reality of Palestinian life under settler violence, see pictures from refugee camps in Gaza, read about the humanitarian catastrophe.

[...] Often when I spoke to peers abroad they confronted me with videos of arrests and shootings of minors, soldiers calling to expel Gaza residents, a soldier saying the "new Jew looks the enemy in the eye and then cuts off his head".

[...] Meanwhile, in a parallel universe, Israeli youth are exposed to nationalist influencers brought to Gaza by the IDF, presenting a destroyed kitchen as an "Arab-Nazi kitchen with an oven for burning people". They see singers chanting to bomb Gaza, saying it is a "whore" and "garbage". kolektiva.social/@oatmeal/1119

  3. #IsraelUSAHamasWar / IDF soldiers looting in Gaza

Sikha Mekomit presents extensive evidence that looting of Palestinian property by Israeli soldiers was widespread and tolerated by commanders during recent #Gaza operations. In addition to individual soldiers looting, the military's "spoils of war" unit officially confiscates cash and other assets.

  4. #WestBank / Analysis: The consequences of settler violence (Yonatan Kanonich)

Kanonich, a researcher with #YeshDin volunteers for human rights, says that
either #Israel starts properly protecting Palestinian human rights, or more countries will step in as the U.S. has done.

The occupation is not just an internal Israeli matter. For years, the Israeli law enforcement system has failed to properly deal with settler violence against Palestinians in the West Bank, with police investigations consistently finding reasons not to prosecute. Now the U.S., under President Biden, has for the first time imposed sanctions on violent Israeli settlers, doing what the Israeli government should have done long ago.

Successive Israeli governments have allowed settler impunity and violence to continue unchecked, with the current government making this almost explicit policy. By imposing consequences, Biden has exposed Israel's lies and hypocrisy on settlement expansion and violence. More countries may follow with pressure.

Israel's denial of the sanctions won't help. It must either begin prosecuting settler terrorism or face growing international isolation. While the U.S. move should not be celebrated, it offers hope of starting a snowball effect of accountability for rights abuses linked to the occupation.

  5. #PressFreedom / Why did IDF assassinate journalists Hamza Dahdouh and Mustafa Thuraya? 3 different versions within 4 days tried to hide the obvious truth

#IDF doesn't know who they're targeting. They kill and then make up a story about "terrorists". But targeting journalists, clearly marked as such, seem to be a priority. #Israel is also among the top jailers of journalists worldwide, as acknowledged by CPJ recently. kolektiva.social/@oatmeal/1118

Israel gave several shifting explanations for the killing of Hamza Dahdouh and Mustafa Thuraya:

Initial IDF statement was that they were killed while accompanying a "terrorist" who was operating a drone that threatened Israeli forces.

Later, an IDF spokesperson statement was that they were using a drone in a war zone which is problematic, but it is unfortunate they were killed.

Even later, the IDF statement changed again, this time claiming that "intelligence" shows the two were active members of #Hamas and Palestinian #IslamicJihad, who had just operated drones threatening Israeli forces before being targeted.

This tortured interview with #Hasbara operative Eylon Levy leaves no room for doubt. Israel is lying and has been lying to international media about almost everything they agree to comment on in respect to the arbitrary killing of Gazans.
