    "Former Typhoon #Shanshan, now a severe tropical storm, is moving slowly up the southern half of Japan, bringing feet of rain, triggering #landslides and unleashing #tornadoes. The storm is far from over, however, as flooding rain will continue to fall through early next week due to the storm's slow trek across the island nation.

    "Shanshan was the equivalent of a Category 1 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale late Thursday night JST after it pushed into #Kyushu, Japan, Thursday afternoon as a Category 2 equivalent. Wind gusts of 115 mph (51.5 m/s) were reported at #Makurazaki early Thursday morning."

  9. L'oeil du 🌀circule sur l'île de Kyushu au sud du . Rétrogradé en catégorie 1/5, il apporte surtout des pluies torrentielles (déjà 500 à 800 mm en 2 jours par endroit). Cela entraîne des glissements de terrain qui ont déjà causé des victimes.

  10. Apparently, some parts of japan are being hit with about 33 inches / 840mm of rain... and #shanshan is one of those storms where the big risk is flooding and landslides, as it slowly passes across much of Japan.

    At least three people have died thus far, when a landslide destroyed a family's house.

    Typhoon Shanshan has made landfall in the southwestern Japanese prefecture of #Kagoshima. Some areas have already seen about 800 millimeters of rainfall in just 48 hours.
    In the coming hours into Friday, heavy rainclouds could form over much of #Kyushu, as well as #Yamaguchi Prefecture and the #Shikoku region.

  18. : le a provoqué des pluies torrentielles sur Kyushu, la grande ile du sud. Il avait généré des rafales à près de 170 km/h sur Okinawa lundi. Sa progression est lente, déversant ainsi des pluies durables qui se porpagent vers l'île centrale d'Honshu.
