I grew up listening to shortwave radio. I learned how to make antennas too. The proper length of antenna and electrically shortening or lengthening it with a capacitor or inductor. I would also learn how to take a #balun and make covert directional and #yagi antennas, something that might be very important if signals are jammed during a total fascist takeover. Cable, connectors, and makeshift insulators and RF iron cores, stocking up on these DIY antenna parts might be quite useful during the dark days ahead. Also, learning #MorseCode never goes out of style.

Danke. Ja, brauch nur noch einen neuen Stock ... <hüstel> ... Mast. Da werde ich das komplette Node mit Solarmodul und Tupperbox mit Akku und MPPT-Laderegler an den Stock ... äh ... Mast anbringen.

Aktuell teste ich auch die 6dB größere Sendeleistung des Heltec V4 aus. Heute im Überreichweitenwetter gingen tatsächlich mehr als 9 von 10 Nachrichten beim ersten Versuch raus und erreichten das Ziel. Der Rest dann beim 2ten oder 3ten Sendeversuch.

Soviel gechattet hab ich noch nie über Mesh. Ausserdem hilft es natürlich, dass Meshcore gerade regelrecht explodiert. Bei dir im Norden ist ja Kiel neben Hamburg vorne mit dabei.

So. I was still not really nice with my last yagi antenna, which I have built lately.

I have chosen another build, which I found on printables.

After several hours of printing, it's finally ready. It was hard to tune it properly. Best I got SWR 1,21 and impedance of 59+j3 Ohm. Not what I hoped to get. But I installed it.

I think that the link to my next meshcore repeater improved with more than 4 dB. But I have to check it over time.

I have built a second antenna of this style with slightly changed length of the wires.

I calculated it with MMANA-GAL. The new antenna has a resonance at 871MHz. At my frequency of 869,618MHz (UK/EU-Narrow Preset) the impedance is 49+j2,5 Ohm and the SWR is 1,11. The directional gain is also slightly higher, according to the calculation it raised by 1,8dB.

I reach the said repeater and am now connected to 50+ repeater around Braunschweig, Wolfsburg, Gifhorn, Helmstedt and even reaching down to the Harz Mountains.

The antenna is a proof of concepts. And now, as this is working, I will build a longer lasting antenna to do the job.

I have built a yagi-antenna for my meshcore-repeater to reach a hardly-out-of-range repeater, which connects me to the Braunschweig-City mesh.

A three elements YAGI antenna, with crude lengths of the reflextor, dipol and director. But what shall I say? I managed to tune it to 861MHz. At 869MHz it has a SWR of 1,48 and an impedance of 39-5j Ohm.
Not really good, but obviously good enough?!

#Typhoon #Yagi is now at its peak now, with winds up to 130kts/150mph/241kph and gusts up to 160kts/184mph/296kph.

• JTWC has classified Yagi as a #SuperTyphoon.
• It will maintain its strength for Thur afternoon, maybe even intensifying slightly until Thur evening.
• It is on track to make landfall between Leizhou Peninsula and #Hainan, China by Fri evening.
• After exiting into the Gulf of Tonkin, it is forecast to hit #Haiphong, Vietnam by Sat evening.

Various astronomers are reporting that a 1-meter asteroid (#CAQTDL2) discovered by the #CatalinaSkySurvey this morning will become a meteor by striking the atmosphere at around 16:39 UTC (12:39am local time) over northern #Luzon island in the #Philippines 🇵🇭.

• After crossing #Luzon yesterday, it is currently moving westward in the South China Sea.
• It will pick up both track speed and wind speed starting Wed pm. It is forecast to reach peak wind speed of 110kts/127mph/204kph by late Thur night to early Fri.
• Landfall by Fri evening in #Hainan, China, before a second landfall by Sat evening in #Haiphong, Vietnam.
• Yagi (やぎ) is the Japanese name for the constellation Capricorn.
