A winter walk in a tourist hotspot. I avoid coming down here in the summer, but the reality of it out of season is very different.
When I first lived here as a teenager I worked in a pub just behind where I'm standing. It paid my way through my Coventry Polytechnic days during the holidays.

Just home after a lovely evening stroll at #Shanklin
I'm standing just outside of a long since closed pub where I worked as a teenager. Looking down onto another pub where my then boyfriend worked. Lots of memories from that brief 3 year stint of living on the Island before I moved off, and then came back again.

Today's #SundayStroll along the coast from #Shanklin to #Luccombe
Coastal erosion very apparent here, it's near to the site of a large landslip that happened in December. A few idiots were walking close to the cliff, that is until a sizeable chunk fell away and nearly landed on them. #IsleofWight

It was like a millpond out there an hour ago. Flat calm at #Shanklin during my #SundayStroll
The small section of tree caught up in the breakwater has been there for a few weeks now, washed along the shore from a landslip further around the coast.

It's been weeks since my husband has been out with the camera.
December and the Christmas trade means that we're at the shop 7 days a week, plus it's dark when he can get away.
That and the rubbish weather has meant the camera has been gathering dust.
It was nice to get back to #Shanklin on the #IsleofWight for the second time today to capture the muted sunset.
This is what a bustling seaside town looks like in winter!

Rather than open up the shop today, after our Christmas break we've taken an extra day of "annual leave" because I had to return to the dentist. The tooth I had removed a month ago left behind its roots which were supposed to come out today. No chance, the tooth remnants aren't giving up easily!
No surgery today, but now I've got the afternoon off. Took a walk down #Shanklin seafront which is close to the dentist surgery #seasidestroll -
This image, taken yesterday was supposed to be a big moon telephoto shot, but the weather scuppered that plan.
In the end my husband just had fun with the camera trying to get starbursts on the street lights. Apparently a small aperture does the trick.

As I mentioned yesterday it's currently #InternationalDarkSkyWeek and I'm intending on posting a photo a day from the #IsleofWight which is applying to be recognised as a Dark Skies Park.
My husband took this quite a few years ago at #Shanklin. In the early summer the #MilkyWay is clearly visible here, if the weather is clear.
The pub goers had long since left the Fisherman's Cottage when he took this! #LandscapePhotography
