Cracking day out on the South Island Randonnée although numbers were way down on last year's event. On the plus side I didn't miss the May Bank Holiday traffic queues where the route crosses the approaches to Ryde. Gentle SE wind meant the run along the Military Road was the fastest ever. #IsleOfWight #cycling #BikeToot

Booked ourselves a little treat for next month (we'll pretend it's for my birthday even though we don't buy presents) and it will be a second attempt to sail around the Isle of Wight on the world's last seagoing paddle steamer, Waverley. Tried in 2022 but ended up spending the day in Yarmouth instead owing to some engine issues. Lovely, old vessel with an open engine room to the pistons and paddles.

Amazon World Zoo on the Isle of Wight has announced the birth of twin #RedPanda cubs, born on June 17, 2025.
The arrival of the cubs is a success for the zoo's breeding program, which paired 10-year-old female Xiao with 10-month-old male Flint, imported from Belfast Zoo.

The #IsleOfWight tells the story of Ginger Tom — a cat that is said slide in and out of people’s letter boxes through the night. If you meet him, and offer him a special type of gingerbread (named after him) he will grant you his ear and give you advice.
But here’s the rub, if he does not like the treat he will not tell you, but his advice will be bad. It is only he enjoys the ginger that he will give you good advice.
If however, he visits and you have nothing to offer, then Ginger Tom will leave, never to visit you again.
A fresh batch of Ginger Toms was baked just this morning: they are thick and soft and made with real ginger.
