  1. In honor of #InternationalDarkSkyWeek, here’s my first attempt at imaging M81 (Bode’s Galaxy, bottom) and M82 (the Cigar Galaxy, top), both 12 million light years away. Not the best capture, as I’m still figuring out the nuances of my Dwarf 3 scope, but I wanted to share. In the wake of Artemis II, may we come to a deeper appreciation of the staggering beauty of the universe out there, and preserve our night skies so we can see it.

  3. God said: Let the dark be dark.
    Let the stars shine properly.
And let darkness with no stars
heal the damage caused by light…

  5. Stargazing isn’t always easy in the city, but there are dark sky preserves across Western Canada that are protected from light pollution. #InternationalDarkSkyWeek

  7. Another view for #InternationalDarkSkyWeek

This is #WhitecliffBay on the #IsleofWight photographed during exceptional circumstances.

A new moon so very little natural light, the #MilkyWay in amazing clarity and the #PerseidMeteorShower putting on a wonderful display.

My husband was thrilled to be there at the right time! #LandscapePhotography #astrophotography

  8. Sunflowers at #Arreton on the #IsleofWight under the #MilkyWay

Continuing with the #InternationalDarkSkyWeek theme I've chosen this view for today.

My husband found this to be a tricky shot, trying to find a suitable composition where the #sunflowers aligned with the stars. It did make for quite a sight though!

  9. Continuing on with my #InternationalDarkSkyWeek posts here's another of my husband's images taken last year.

    The #MilkyWay at #FreshwaterBay on the #IsleofWight

The enormous rock formation that stands out to sea is named Stag Rock. The Island has been put forward as a candidate as a Dark Skies Park. We are so lucky to have little light pollution here.

  10. Continuing with a photo each evening (if I remember!) for #InternationalDarkSkyWeek

This was taken last year at #StCatherinesLighthouse on the #IsleofWight

This is a perfect location for #NightSkyPhotography and was the first place that my husband attempted to shoot the #MilkyWay many years back. It still draws him there every now and then.

It's also my favourite spot on the Island. It's so tranquil there at any time of day, or night.

  11. As I mentioned yesterday it's currently #InternationalDarkSkyWeek and I'm intending on posting a photo a day from the #IsleofWight which is applying to be recognised as a Dark Skies Park.

My husband took this quite a few years ago at #Shanklin. In the early summer the #MilkyWay is clearly visible here, if the weather is clear.

The pub goers had long since left the Fisherman's Cottage when he took this! #LandscapePhotography

  12. I've posted this photo before, at the tail end of last year but as it's #InternationalDarkSkyWeek and #StandingStoneSunday I thought I'd share it again!

This is the Longstone on the #IsleofWight with #CometNeowise visible in the sky. The Island is applying to become a Dark Skies Park and attracts many photographers to capture the views here.

My husband took the shot, I light painted the Longstone with a small torch. If I remember I'll post some more night sky photos over the week.

  14. There are two great events happening tomorrow night (April 15) in the #SanDiego area to kick off #InternationalDarkSkyWeek
