I will be moving my web stuff to my Linux PC after we move. I wrote the website in ordinary HTML, ages ago. I admit it uses a CSS file, but in my defence, it was randomly generated by Strange Banana, and I have no idea how it works. I probably ought to update the cookie thingy to say that the only cookies anyone will be infected by are the ones Google puts on its adverts. I don't care if I can't tell who wants to read about #Rebetiko on my site, it's information I give away.

I went and looked it up on the Kounadis Archive, where there's a good explanation and a better #78rpm transfer, though it's cut short for copyright reasons. An explanation too: "It is the top instrumental song of rebetiko’s discography. [...]
The release of the record in Greece in 1932 was a key event and contributed to the entrance of the bouzouki in discography. It influenced many of the well-known composers of rebetiko"

On l’entend [(le #rébétiko)] même dans un des thèmes-cultes de #PulpFiction (1994), ce film de #QuentinTarantino au retentissement international. #Misirlou (mot dérivé de l’arabe et du turc qui signifie « l’Égyptienne ») a connu plusieurs versions #rébétiko dans les années 1920 et 1930, jusqu’à celle de #NikosRoubanis en 1943 à l’orchestration #jazz, devenue le standard parmi les nombreux enregistrements que l’on doit à la diaspora grecque établie en #Amérique, notamment à #NewYork. La chanson devient un tube avec la reprise instrumentale à la guitare électrique de #DickDale en 1963, suivi des #BeachBoys l’année suivante, avant la version de #PulpFiction trente ans plus tard. Musique nationale ancestrale, le #rébétiko s’est ainsi retrouvé au cœur d’une grande production américaine, devenant élément marketing d’une industrie culturelle hégémonique.
