Relatica 1.2.1, a Friendica mobile and desktop client, has been released. The biggest visible changes will be the link with preview part of the post/comment composer screen and you can select text within posts. This is also the first release published to the Google Play Store, no beta team access required any longer. There have been some other smaller tweaks as well. APK, Linux, and Windows pre-compiled binaries still available with links from the install page. #relatica #friendica #fediverse

@Flachländer Eine offizielle Friendica-App namens "Friendica" gibt es nicht, sondern allerhöchstens Drittanbieter-Apps.
Du mußt bedenken: Friendica ist nicht aus den 2020ern, sondern von 2010, über fünfeinhalb Jahre älter sogar noch als Mastodon. Damals galten Smartphone-Apps für Webdienste noch nicht wie heute als lebensnotwendig, sondern als Gimmicks. Auf eine Art ist das bis heute Teil der uralten Friendica-Kultur.
Außerdem ist Friendica so ein Featuremonster, daß es schwierig ist, es so in eine dedizierte Mobil-App zu gießen, daß der Anwender in keinem denkbaren Friendica-Anwendungsfall jemals die Weboberfläche brauchen wird. Eine App, die wirklich alle Features von Friendica abdeckt außer denjenigen, die die Weboberfläche direkt betreffen, wäre ihrerseits monströs.
Versucht wird es trotzdem. Für Android gibt's RaccoonForFriendica. Meines Wissens ist das die einzige wirklich auf Friendica ausgelegte App, die im Google Play Store erhältlich ist. Außerdem gibt's Relatica, die ist aber noch (sehr!) unfertig und meines Wissens nur als Testversion und APK-Download erhältlich.
Im Apple App Store fürs iPhone oder iPad gibt's überhaupt keine dedizierten Friendica-Apps. Wenn du ein iPhone hast und unbedingt eine dedizierte App mit nativer iOS-Oberfläche brauchst, dann hast du keine andere Wahl, als dir den Aufwand mit TestPilot und persönlichem Kontakt zu den Entwicklern anzutun, um an eine möglicherweise unzuverlässige Testversion zu kommen.
Fedilab, auch wieder nur für Android erhältlich, ist mal einigermaßen an Friendica angepaßt worden. Aber Fedilab nutzt die Mastodon Client API, deckt also bei weitem nicht alle Features von Friendica ab.
Ein paar Mastodon-Apps für Android sollen wohl auch funktionieren. Aber da hast du erst recht nur die vielleicht 20% der Friendica-Features, die Mastodon auch hat. Und etliche andere Bedienelemente, die mastodonspezifische Features steuern, sind auf Friendica funktionslos.
Am besten geht es, wie @Steffen 🦉🇪🇺 beschrieben hat: Du nutzt Friendica erstmal im Browser. Da sollte dir dann angeboten werden, Friendica (genauer gesagt, deinen Node) als sogenannte Progressive Web App zu installieren. Dann hast du zwar auch die Weboberfläche und keine schicke native iOS- oder Android-Mobiloberfläche, aber du hast garantiert immer alle Features zur Hand, sogar noch nach Friendica-Updates, ohne von irgendwelchen App-Entwicklern abhängig zu sein.

@wolf Versuch es mal mit Relatica, eine App die genau für Friendica gemacht ist.
Kann noch nicht alles, aber was es tut, macht es sehr gut.
Mir fehlt nur noch
* das Löschen lokaler Beiträge und
* das Folgen einer Unterhaltung.Installation derzeit noch via Apk, die zum Download steht.

again than you for creating the Relatica-app for Android devices.I am trying out the latest release v1.1.0 and i think there is a bug in displaying posts:
1. When i switch from the timeline to 'View post', the bottomline is cut off so no reaction can be done.
2. When creating a new post, the screen can't be scrolled and also the bottomline is cut off so the post can't be submitted.Device: Pixel 4a, LineageOS 22.2 / Android 15, no Google-like services.

The cross-platform Friendica client Relatica version 1.1.0 was released. There are some small tweaks two big things are a user manual and this is the first release available directly from the Apple AppStore for iOS and iPadOS. Now I'll be trying to get officially into the app stores for macOS, Android, and then F-Droid. TestFlight and test program on Android store are still available as are zips of APKs and binaries for Windows and Linux. #relatica #friendica

Relatica, the Friendica mobile/desktop app I develop, is designed so that it can toggle on/off features or workarounds based on the server version that the user is interacting with. For example resharing to Bluesky was added with plugins developed in Friendica 2024.08. Likewise there were problems with Diaspora resharing that were fixed in 2023.04. So the implementations can check the version and then change behavior accordingly. As I'm refactoring some code I see a check for a version requirement of 2023.04 or greater. Looking at fediverse.observer it appears that across all the servers it sees there is only one server with one active user that doesn't meet that version requirement. I'm not going to change it now because of that but it got me thinking if there becomes a point where it's better to remove the branched behavior for older releases that are no longer in use or just leave it in there. I'm honestly torn between "if it ain't broke don't fix it" and "this is going to turn into a spaghetti mess over the years so better to prune and trim as time goes on." #friendica #relatica #programming

Ich selbst bin sowohl mit #Friendica als auch mit #Sharkey sehr zufrieden. Die Unterschiede zwischen Sharkey und #Iceshrimp dürften nur im Detail liegen. Jedenfalls nach dieser Vergleichstabelle sind die wesentlichen Funktionen gleich.
Für mich sind bei den *keys u.a. die Antennen / News Picker eins der Killer-Features! Bei Friendica ist zwar Ähnliches möglich mit den Kanälen, aber die Antennen funktionieren bei mir (noch ein paar kleinen Anpassungen zu Beginn) noch besser. Das schlägt meiner Erfahrung nach das Hashtag-Folgen um Längen. (es kann ja auch eine Antenne mit nur einem einzelnen Hashtag angelegt werden, aber in den meisten Fällen macht eine Kombination von mehreren Hashtags + Volltext-Suchworten mehr Sinn und bringt mehr passende Inhalte) .
Bei Sharkey zumindest (bei Friendica) ist es auch möglich, sich benachrichtigen zu lassen, wenn ein bestimmer Account etwas postet. Allerdings nur für Accounts, denen man folgt (nicht gefolgte können über die "Listen" verfolgt werden oder eine Antenne kann auch Accounts beinhalten). Vielleicht ist das bei Iceshrimp anders?Ich persönlich haben keinen Bedarf an Apps. Für #iOS gibt es wohl als spezielle Friendica-App nur noch #Relatica per Testflight: gitlab.com/mysocialportal/rela…
Aber generell würde ich Friendica auch eher für User empfehlen, die es auch/ hauptsächlich am Desktop/ Laptop / Tablet nutzen. Die vielen Optionen sind auf zu kleinen Screens auch nicht wirklich sinnvoll darstellbar.
Am wenigsten "Retrocharme" hat wahrscheinlich das relativ neue #Bookface -Theme, wobei ich persönlich dann doch wieder zu einem der alten Themes zurückgekehrt bin, weil da die Farben individueller einstellbar sind. -
@MsDropbear42 #Raccoon is only an app for Android. In the overview the others are under the category ‘Web App/ Desktop App’. But as far as I know, #Relatica is the only one that offers the range of functions of #Friendica. The others may only have the functions of Mastodon .
There are also ways to run Android apps on desktop, but I don't know if it's worth the effort.
I'm very happy with the WebApp. There's already a new theme, and I'm sure more will follow soon if a few frontend devs are interested in Friendica.

@morebento @matt @nacly @_elena If you use Friendica with a Mastodon app, you only have the functions that Mastodon has. There are (at least) two apps specifically for #Friendica: #Raccoon and #Relatica , see promo.loma.ml/app.html
There are a lot of apps for Lemmy. It's maybe a matter of taste which one suits you best.

Basically I use #friendica from #desktop @julien, and due to it's powerful options "under the hood" I recommend to become familiar with that layout too @sirber.
Not sure if #Raccoon is designed exclusively for friendica but I do know that @hankg's #relatica is, apparently there is even some desktop version too.
Actually if I had to choose only one platform as an option for each kind of #fediVerse screenView use case, I'd choose friendica for desktop and mastodon for cellphone every time. #Decentralization calls nearly by default for more than one profile and microblogging is for a handy screen while desktop is for #newsPaper like edition of content. And friendica is a little bit like that.

But I have no experience with them, the best is always the web app because it has all the functions. However, I wouldn't really recommend Friendica to people who only want to use it on their smartphone.

@rainercade There are also a few other apps, but #Fedilab @apps is really good and the one with the most functions (of the apps that are mainly for Mastodon.)

Verwende wo es geht die Webapp.Am Androiden eine Website im Browser aufrufen und dann "Am Desktop installieren" erzeugt etwas, das zwar im Browser läuft, aber sich eie eine App verhält...
Großartig.Aber Friendica hat die Mastodon-Api integriert und ist daher mit JEDER App für Madtodon nutzbar.
Außerdem gibts #relatica und noch zeri weitere Apps speziell für Friendica.
Manche schwören drauf. Ich mag sie nicht. Siehe oben. -
@pcw soll ja u.a. bei #Friendica ebenfalls so sein, dass die Web-App auch im Mäusekino sehr gut läuft. Ich selbst nutze es mobil so gut wie nicht (nur evtl. mal reinschauen über Tusky).
Für Friendica gibt es zwar inzwischen auch wieder akuelle Apps (Friendica mit einer Mobilen APP nutzen), einige auch speziell für Friendica wie #Raccoon und #Relatica , aber ich persönlich brauche es nicht. -

Two years ago when I started writing Relatica, the Friendica mobile/desktop app, the use case I needed most compared to available social media apps was a low bandwidth mode for when in poor network areas. Being the passenger riding through rural areas every holiday season reminds me of that feature’s importance. Relatica tends to cache content more than other clients but in low bandwidth mode it also defers loading of images until the user initiates that. Scrolling social media there will be literally hundreds of them coming down over a relatively short timeline between post images, link previews, account avatar icons, GIF responses, etc. A stand in box with the ALT text is shown until the user loads the image the first time. After that Relatica shows the locally cached image. Some background synching stuff is also disabled in low bandwidth mode. Starting with 0.14.0 I also added the ability to set longer timeouts on network requests. Even with the lower bandwidth mode can’t overcome how long it takes to transmit responses over edge mobile networks. All this makes having reasonably responsive social media access possible as long as there is the barest of network bandwidth. #friendica #relatica #mobile

The latest beta of the Relatica mobile and desktop Friendica client (v0.15.0) has just been released. This has the new Explorer Screen with support for trending tags/links/statuses, suggested users, followed tags (and managing that), and clicking on a tag in a post/comment brings up the tag search within the app. I think this is the last big UI change hence marching up to the 1.0 status. I have some polishing I want to do before that though. This version is in review in the Apple Testflight for iOS and macOS as well as in the Google Play beta system. Coming down the home stretch for 1.0: big change is the “explorer screen” for seeing trends, suggested accounts, tags you are following, related to that being ability to call up tags searches and some other new features. Hoping to have this version pushed day after Christmas. I’m trying to decide if Contacts should be in the drawer which would open the nav bar space up. I just don’t know what I’d put there instead. Maybe the logged in user’s media gallery screen? I go to that more often than I look up contacts nowadays. #relatica #friendica

The latest beta of the Relatica mobile and desktop Friendica client (v0.14.0) has just been released. This was a major architectural refactoring behind the scenes and a huge step towards 1.0 status. A lot of inconsistency type bugs should be squashed by it. That will bear out as it is used by real users, however. The notes below on fixes captures those identified during initial testing. This release will probably require a little more shakeout than previous ones since almost every panel of the app is affected by the refactoring change and all the data handling, syncing, etc. in the backend was affected. It is in review in the Apple Testflight for iOS and macOS as well as in the Google Play beta system. Downloads for Android, Linux, and Windows are on the install page of the main project. Apple released Relatica v0.13.0 to testing about ten minutes ago. That is the longest it has ever taken for them to do a review. I guess maybe Thanksgiving slowed things down maybe? It's redoubling my desire to get a 1.0 release out by end of year. Anyway, sorry for the coverage gap :( . #relatica #friendica

Open question to the Relatica community, or potential Relatica users in the fediverse. I'm implementing user-side filtering right now, which is unfortunately not something in Friendica and would be harder for me to implement there than client side. That's things like put posts behind a spoiler type banner if they have certain hashtags or hide them entirely if they come from a specific domain. It'll actually allow for more complex combinations of filtering on authors, content, hashtags, and domains. Like one could have a filters that do: "Hide posts from User X with Hashtags A, B, C" and "Put a warning card up for posts with these keywords in the post body from domains that end with *.social". My question comes for if this should be an app-wide setting or a per-account setting, for users with multiple accounts. Open question to the Relatica community, or potential Relatica users in the fediverse. I'm implementing user-side filtering right now, which is unfortunately not something in Friendica and would be harder for me to implement there than client side. That's things like put posts behind a spoiler type banner if they have certain hashtags or hide them entirely if they come from a specific domain. It'll actually allow for more complex combinations of filtering on authors, content, hashtags, and domains. Like one could have a filters that do: "Hide posts from User X with Hashtags A, B, C" and "Put a warning card up for posts with these keywords in the post body from domains that end with *.social".
