  1. Elsie is fixed. The final problem was a corroded and loose HT lead causing an intermittent loss of spark. The plug-in black box has fixed the temperature gauge so it now reads correctly with the wrong sensor.

I had forgotten how brutal the LC power band is.

    < 5,000 RPM: bimbling along
5,000 - 7,000 RPM: ooh, this is quite
    7,000+ : FUUUUUUUUU...

  2. I made it in to work on the newly-rebuilt Still running her in so it was a stately ride rather than a mad thrash.

  3. It looks like there's not much left of it, but this bike is actually more complete now than it's been for months. Everything shown is now fixed and assembled correctly, and once I have the parts for the wheels, I can actually finish building it and get it on the road! This poor bike has been bodged and broken over its 43 years until it was in the sorry state I bought it in. There was no part of the bike that wasn't wrong in some way.

  4. The engine is back in again. This is progress. Anyone want to read an incredibly dull story about temperature sensors?

  5. Fresh from the oven. Filling the house with the wonderful aroma of baked VHT paint. My barrels are re-lined, skimmed, painted, and ready to go.

  6. I've got my re-sleeved barrels, pistons, skimmed head, and new crankshaft back from PJME. Yay! Now to start putting Elsie back together.

  7. "Shouldn't there be a belleville washer on the water pump drive?" Dorrit helping out with the engine work.

  8. The clutch is supposed to just fall off when you remove the crank case cover, yes?

  9. Got the brakes fixed at last, so I took her out for a spin. Rough as hell and she won't rev above 4,000. Then the clutch went about 5 miles from home and I had to ride the rest of the way without it. Luckily you don't need the clutch to change gears on a motorbike, but it was a problem when I had to stop at a roundabout. I had to push it to a slope where I could get enough speed up that it didn't stall when I slammed it into gear. The fun of having a 43 year old bike.

  10. I love for making life easier. This piddly fiddly little metal circlip goes on the fuel line of the carbs on my in an almost impossible to get at spot. Now I can (hopefully) get it clipped on without having to dislocate my fingers.

  11. Today I found out that my has a stripped thread on the brake caliper, and none of the lower engine bolts were done up more than finger tight. Good job I found out before I took it out for a ride. Now I'm going to have to check every bolt on the bike. Sigh.

  12. The definition of optimism - selling a rusty bolt for twice the price you can buy a new one for. Oh, and the new one comes with a nut.

  13. I just bought 822 quid's worth of motorbiking gear in preparation for the bike arriving on Tuesday. OK, it's a 125 scooter, but you dress for the slide, not the ride.

Also, looking out for the right RD350LC for me to do my mid-life crisis in style. The gear will be a bit more suitable for that,

  14. I was in the first Birdsite exodus, but now using Mastodon exclusively.

I'm an technician at a major university, starting to think about what to do when I retire.

I try not to post too much political stuff. Mainly , stuff, things, things, , and general wibbling on about stuff.

I'm currently getting my ready for riding.

    Nice to meet you.
