In fact, Iowa Conservative Quakers—where my formal membership is—are generally very slow to engage in open conflict, apparently out of fear of causing further separation and disconnection.
It’s a loving community that often meets potentially controversial topics with curiosity and kindness— sometimes to a fault but I’d rather err on the side of connection and mutual care than on the side of disconnection and disdain

I am still reflecting on what my #Quaker meeting (similar to a congregation) discussed this past week. It was a brief history of the discord that had split Quakers in Iowa into either more revivalist/evangelical types or more reserved, “conservative” types (ie conserving the early Quaker tradition)

@olaf_radicke @quakers — Well, now, I did not say that #Quakerism came out of nowhere. Nor did I say that Fox invented Q’ism. (Though he did have the insights that fired the movement.) And I really don’t see how any of that bears on my earlier comments in this thread! I was talking about modes of evangelism, and describing what worked for early Friends and also works for me. Where Q’ism came from seems to me like a change of subject.

@SeumanOtwal @quakers #Quakerism did not come out of nowhere. There were many different groups at the beginning, even before the #Quakers were constituted. Many have the idea that G. Fox "invented" Quakerism. All the elements of Quakerism can be found in parts in other groups and personalities that existed before. G, Fox is credited with bringing the right elements together and giving them structure. 1/4
