  6. Anyway, other proud-warrior-races like the Klingons of #StarTrek, or proud-religious-warrior-races like the Minbari of #Babylon5, its a lot easier to get an impression of what their cultures are like because you're watching characters like Worf, Martok, Delenn and Neroon interact in different contexts and with people outside of their society.

In the #StarCraft games you mostly see #Protoss interacting with each other, and (at least as far as I've played) in a fairly limited manner.

  9. I think the thing I'm missing about the #Protoss is the details of their archetype. From game play and mission briefings you get some of their mannerisms, but lack details on what makes them tick.

What merit do they see in their tradition? What are the gods and heroes in their pantheon, and what values do they articulate?

How does being in psychic contact with each other affect them? Do they pity non-psychics? Or are they contemptuous? Or perhaps frightened?

  12. The #Protoss seem a little nebulously defined, in the sense that I don't have much of an idea what interacting with a Protoss would be like in a normal setting and only have a vague idea of what they value or how they see the world.

We can tell some things about them - they are very serious, value tradition, have a rigid society of some kind and sort of have the proud-warrior-race-guy thing going on. So sort of Glacially Conservative Psychic Minbari Space Elves?

  15. The alien factions form a perfect aesthetic triangle with the space redneck terrans - the #Zerg are all cute meat monsters with too many teeth and the #Protoss have the exotic, high-tech smooth alien crystal thing going on.

Thematically, the Zerg are pretty much always bad and the other two factions are only good sometimes. Having all the factions be mostly jerks is a good way to make a war game make sense though; if everyone was nice and reasonable it would be hard to have a space war.
