  1. Spent the weekend reviewing my old Obsidian vault — articles, snippets, journals, all mixed together. Extracted the non-personal stuff into a public repo and polished the `MkDocs` setup so the site actually looks like a site.

  6. Those who know me know that I am not a huge fan of academic writing and publishing. Hell, the term “to publish” has been entirely co-opted by for-profit journals to mean “to gatekeep”.

So, inspired by @gedankenstuecke, I am reclaiming the term by publishing academic(-adjacent?) work on my #PersonalWiki, in as non-academic (and non-awful) a writing style as I can get away with.

Still nothing here besides the start of an abstract, but it’s a start:

  7. The subtitle icons themselves function as buttons, which re-direct to a note that is generated via a template containing a geomap widget, and the coordinates as the note title, stored when either of the two ViewToolbar buttons is pressed.

  8. I refactored the [[Bookcase]] in my wiki … it might be a good topic for a video tutorial someday.

Instead of loading in different stored lists as a way of filtering the content, I now have one list that is filtered dynamically that both list (text) views and cover (image) views adhere to, making for neat on-the-fly re-arranging of the same list, and much more optimized.

  9. based off of a similar solution by Charlie_Veniot, I have solved one of the long-standing friction points with adding images to my digital garden in TiddlyWiki.

This image importer will accept drag/drop links of image files (via the filesystem viewed in a webbrowser i.e. file:///Users/myPath/…) plus being able to quickly designate them into specific system directories via checkbox, or just supply the custom path directly

  12. I'm switching to Logseq for note taking/keeping: logseq.com/

Over the years I've been using ikiwiki, MoinMoin, Trello, and then vimoutliner. I don't have many requirements so vimoutliner has been nice for somebody already using vim, the thing I was missing the most was ability to access notes from my phone. With Logseq I can keep the same note structure and using #syncthing I can keep them synced between multiple devices. What are you using?

  13. Lots of stuff to do at work so instead I'm looking into switching from vimoutliner to #logseq for note taking etc. It's an electron app but the ability to reasonably use it on a mobile phone might be worth the pain.

  14. Yes! @causalislands comes to LA 👾 I am excited to be presenting a talk titled “Using #TiddlyWiki For Personal Knowledge Curation” on 23 March at Monk Space

  15. here’s a safe methodology for pushing changes to a single-file @TiddlyWiki edition on a remote server …

it renames the current index.html as _index.html while flushing the previous _index.html, preserving the previous version as a backup on the server

  17. I was having some small issues with FeatherWiki so switched my personal wiki/digital garden to TiddlyWiki, but to be honest while I find TiddlyWiki very easy to use and really pretty (at least with my current theme, it's not as useful on mobile but I really like it in the browser: wiki.gersande.com) it takes a fucking age and a half to load. Frustrating. I don't want to deal with more complex self-hosted wiki-software because I'm self-hosting and love the drag-and-drop-html-file TiddlyWiki approach. Do I just... accept that it's going to be slow?

  18. excited to share that I will be giving a #TiddlyWiki workshop at offline.place in Berlin on 13/6 alongside @liaizon who will give a workshop following mine on the #fediverse

i’m very much looking forward to this and for the opportunity to present materials on #digitalgarden #pkm #personalwiki #wiki

more details to follow in the replies

  19. grateful for the Discord #tiddlywiki community! with some help i really leveled-up the [[Discography]] in the 🌱 digital garden today. The page remembers the model view for either text list, grid, or stacked images and filters the categories based on user interaction.

  20. so now the svg icon flair is functional rather than purely decorative, and because the [[Discography]] template is handling all the link generation, I didn't have to change the fields or the organization of the wiki.

  21. I’ve been building out a personal #wiki using @ia Writer and their new (to me) wikilinks feature. I like that it’s all built around plaintext files, and everything’s stored on my local.

I’ve seen others use @notionhq for this, but I’m a bit weary of tying all my personal data to a company that could be acquired or dissolved in the future.

I’m curious if there are other alternatives that are purpose-built for this use case? #personalwiki
