  1. Setback after setback, testing and more testing. I've about had my fill of #Android text editors.

Part of me will miss version history and commenting on #GoogleDocs, the latter less used than the former.

But #ProtonDocs is still pretty much still beta - with a bug that makes the app confused about where the cursor goes - but also it needs to be always offline before it's truly usable.

I've landed on #OpenNote - again - mostly because it can do automatic backups to my #Jottacloud drive.

  2. Finding a sleek, distraction free #markdown editor for #Android is rough, especially when paired with a cloud storage provider that isn't #Google.

My candidates were #OpenNote and #Quilpad, but both take away power from the user by preventing them from managing their own files.

Both refuse to work with the Android cloud provider backend, to a point where I can't even import my MD files from #Jottacloud.

One has experimental support for #Nextcloud tho, which smells like #vendorlockin.

  3. So we've widdled down this #app #showdown between #Markdown #editors for #Android.

In the end I'm prioritizing ease of use, design and aesthetics. But you can't ignore what's pragmatic. Between #QuillPad and #OpenNote, I'd want QuillPad - but I need Open Note.

QuillPad has tags, which is a nice to have - but not really all that important to me.

In the end Open Note wins out, because of its info screen that counts words used - but also, the document outline.

For now, I think this is it.

  4. #Markor is a mainstay for #Android #Markdown editors. It bridges the gap between document writer and note taker by separation of concerns.

As an editor, it has some fairly complex features, like making custom tables to illustrate data.

But it's also old in design and usability. Had to bump up the text size for my own convenience, but still doesn't out compete any of the other editors (like #OpenNote) in that regard.
