@dbattistella may I offer you some #Jottacloud in these trying times? #Norwegian data protections are some of the most strict in the world.
But yeah, beyond that: artists should keep their data safe locally as well.
Getting a router in the home that can be updated and that has built-in VPN connected to external storage is one way of "having your cake and eating it too".
Perhaps even renting your own VPS.
But artists should know: nothing in life is free, and using free services is a gamble.

Feedback welcome!

One year ago I just had it with O365 due to many reasons, us based, integrity and the final punch the absurd price increase due to AI services I never asked for so I left for Jottacloud and I’m still very happy.

This is the first script being obfuscated .... and you wonder why put so much energy into doing such nonsense.
And why on earth use Perl to obfuscate when a Base64 blob would actually work just as fine without pulling in a huge Perl dependency chain ...
This packaging is using the wrong tools for the wrong reasons.

I'm in the process of finding the best alternative for replacing Google Photos with a non-US alternative (preferably European) and so far the choice seems to be between #Jottacloud, #Ente, and #Nextcloud (hosted at #Hetzner). Ente seems to be the most polished, but their casting to TV is crappy. Jottacloud works perfectly and is cheap, but lack built-in photo editing. Nextcloud doesn't have video thumbnails, but is the cheapest at the 1 TB i currently need.

DeGoogle 04
Google teenuste komplekti järgmine suur osa on Google Drive.
Otsisin draivi, kus on integreeritud veebi põhine office suit.
Nende telefoni äpp on rohem galerii moodi ning omab sarnaselt Google photole väikseid meenutusi, näidates samal kuupäeval eelnevatel aastatel tehtud pilte.
Igatahes tundub see, olevat midagi mida võiks kunagi täpsemalt katsetada.

@DoctorG_1 just found out that #rclone already has a encrypt/decrypt wrapper implemented.
you can basically create an endpoint using the encrypt/decrypt wrapper that wraps the #jottacloud endpoint.
This way your cloud data gets encrypted on upload.
-
Tip of the day. The easiest way to use #jottacloud on #linux is to use #rclone
rclone does all the magic and simplifies the setup.
I added a rclone script to my crontab and have everything backed up regularly.
A) to a second drive
B) to my NAS
C) to jottacloudI also added a line to create a copy of crontab and fstab.
edit: If you want cloud independent encryption you can add #cryptomator
edit2: Found out that rclone already has an encryption wrapper https://rclone.org/crypt/

Love the combination of #rclone and #jottacloud running in a daily cron-job.
The cloud abstraction layer that rclone provides is just awesome.
The #european jotta cloud is one of the best providers out there.

Good guy #Jottacloud sends you an email when you delete a lot of files.
I also find it funny that the web interface is a bit limited, the app gives you a bit more, but the CLI gives you absolute control over your files and folders.
I've now backed up all my machines, plus I have a sync folder, plus I have a destructive archive folder I can share files from.
Honestly, besides a sharing UI that is a bit janky, Jottacloud gives the power to the user and whips #GoogleDrive's ass.

Setback after setback, testing and more testing. I've about had my fill of #Android text editors.
Part of me will miss version history and commenting on #GoogleDocs, the latter less used than the former.
But #ProtonDocs is still pretty much still beta - with a bug that makes the app confused about where the cursor goes - but also it needs to be always offline before it's truly usable.
I've landed on #OpenNote - again - mostly because it can do automatic backups to my #Jottacloud drive.

Finding a sleek, distraction free #markdown editor for #Android is rough, especially when paired with a cloud storage provider that isn't #Google.
My candidates were #OpenNote and #Quilpad, but both take away power from the user by preventing them from managing their own files.
Both refuse to work with the Android cloud provider backend, to a point where I can't even import my MD files from #Jottacloud.
One has experimental support for #Nextcloud tho, which smells like #vendorlockin.

And it's begun. Almost 500GB of videos, fotos and a massive, ungodly amount of memes and shitposts that I just did not want to go through, because I've already cut several hundred GBs of duplicates.
It's been a rough couple of weeks, but I feel I've finally gotten a hold of my massive picture and video library - to some extent.
And yes, that is the #Jottacloud CLI you're seeing there. It's a cloud service hosted in #Norway, so I know my data is safe within our sovereign borders.
-
For someone #degoogling their life, I sure do use #Gemini a lot - but for good reason.
It's been helping me by generating a couple of Python and bash scripts to organize my photos - in particular merging my #GooglePhotos takeout folder with my larger collection before I back it all up to #Jottacloud.
It's like using someone's left hand to sever their right one. Thanks, Gemini.

Todays little tip: With #jottacloud you can store both files AND photos! 📷 📁
Instead of splitting our services in two different apps, we chose to have it all in one place.
No need to switch between two different places to find what you're looking for.
Just in case you didn't know already ;)
👉 Do you use separate services for your files and photos, or do you keep them in one place (for example Jottacloud😉 )?

To me #cloud #tech isn't inherently bad, but is associated with some very bad actors. As such, we all know which vendors we should stay away from.
Speaking of which, #GooglePhotos. Big bad. Bad blue, red, yellow and green. Big no no for #Europe. But, how about... #Jottacloud? Why not Jottacloud?
One month, $10'ish, and your data is stored in good ol' #Norway and slightly spritzed with #Voss water... probably.
I'm also now wondering how I can transfer about 200GB with timestamps and all o_o

I’m finally Microsoft free, as I now have terminated my O365 subscription in favor of JottaCloud.
There are 2 reasons for this:
-the price
-Trump and the instability he bringsOpen Office works as good as MS office. All computers are since long time back converted to Linux Mint.

We read the transparency report of Jottacloud 🇳🇴 (@jottacloud), a Norwegian cloud provider, where they explain how they handle government requests for users’ data. If you don’t know what a “Warrant Canary” is, keep reading!
In Norway, the gov can issue warrants for the search and seizure of customers data and it can also stop the company from telling its users about this. (secret warrants)
So, what does Jottacloud do in these cases?
1- They need a special court order (warrant) before they can hand over user data to the gov.
2- If they do get one, they’ll let the user know, unless they’re not allowed to.
3- If the gov asks them to keep it secret (“gag order”), Jottacloud uses something called a Warrant Canary. What is a Warrant Canary?
It’s a way for a service provider to tell its users that it’s been served with a government subpoena, even though they’re not allowed to reveal it.
It’s like a warning sign. Jottacloud puts out a statement every week that’s timestamped and signed with their private key to verify its authenticity, meaning that “everything’s fine”. If they stop updating that statement, it might mean they’ve received a gag order and can’t tell the user about it.
They want to be open with users, but also follow the law.
You can read more about it on their Transparency page:
