I can sure see why, it's beautiful, controls wonderfully and has a soundtrack I'd say is exactly what people are thinking of when they say the SNES soundtracks stick in their mind even decades after last picking up an SNES gamepad. Another #OffTheBacklog #SuperMarioRPG #Switch I never played jRPGs as a child. Even without nostalgia I enjoyed the refreshingly short 20 hrs to max level my entire party & get to credits. This's a great introductory jRPG & deserving of its beloved status. There's a TON to do after the credits but I'll be moving on. Time for #OffTheBacklog - it's #StevenKing 's #TheStand as an unabridged audiobook based on the 1990 "Complete & Uncut Edition". At 47 hours and 47 minutes, this audiobook is a commitment. It’s a fantastic book, and Grover Gardner’s narration is the best I’ve heard, save for the frequent mispronunciation of Nevada. (Remember, Nevada sounds like "Had Uh" not "Odd Duh"). I won't do any spoiling but I will say even if you've seen both adaptations there is plenty here for you and it's way better!

Well over 350 hours (mostly on the #steamdeck ) and another game #OffTheBacklog ! #DyingLight was fantastic, genuinely scary at times and the exploring and verticality were very rewarding. Ended at 20,210 infected killed, 228 drops recovered, legend level 102, all quests, side quests and quarantine zones completed and 44 steam achievements. And streamed a good bit of it. The #Twitch year recap said I was in top 10% of DyingLight streamers! #gaymer #gamer #backlog

2024 is drawing to a close and I'm using winter break to get a couple more things #OffTheBacklog - I just finished #TheHobbit ! It was enjoyable and best of all the battle of the 5 armies was just 6 pages long! I won't be moving on to the #LotR books just yet. Cozy, that's the word - this book is cozy and enjoyable. #gaymer

Another game #OffTheBacklog - this time it's Call of Juarez : Gunslinger & man was this the perfect change of pace after a lot of long RPG playing - this game took 19.1 hours. I really like the art style & it does a great job of balancing moments where you feel like a total badass & times you play the same section over & over. Well, unsatisfied with the bad ending I loaded a previous save and got the full ending #Persona3 is now fully #OffTheBacklog and clocked in at 106 hours 3 min in the save file and steam puts my total play at 105.4 hours. Can't help but I think I would have enjoyed the game more if it had been more like 40-60hr checkout my previous #OffTheBacklog post for more of my thoughts #gamer #gaymer #steamdeck #jrpg

I played a proper/long (for me) #JRPG - #Persona3Portable & after 96hr of play it's #OffTheBacklog I enjoyed the battle system, really liked Junpei & I can see why it's loved, but can also say it wasn't for me. A 3rd of the way thru the game it felt repetitive/boring, I really disliked some of the ppl you are supposed to build relationships w/& a strange transphobic scene kinda comes out of nowhere/serves no purpose. #gamer #gaymer

Felt like crossing something off the #Backlog today so I found the shortest #steam game in my library & knocked it out. #Pixplode appears to be a mobile physics game? 44 stages consisting of blocks of various types. Get the gold block to the goal by rotating the stage & exploding TNT blocks. This VERY short game was easy to beat in 77 min - some stages are as simple as rotating the screen once. It took a few decades but I finally beat the original #LegendOfZelda ! I used a guide & the save state feature of the #NESClassic which I don't regret at all. Every failed attempt in the past has been the same, I'd get to a point where I can't find anything to do next. Finished #Firewatch on #SteamDeck. It’s easy to see why it got such praise. Start does an amazing job to get you up to speed & invested in your character. gameplay is good w/a map&compass & clear objectives you’re never lost for long but also has freedom to explore if you prefer. Writing & voice acting are fantastic. I think the story & ending don’t live up to the potential that the beginning set. Still, I understand and respect their choices. Length is refreshingly short. #OffTheBacklog #gaymer

#BlairWitch This game took forever to beat. I‘m very conflicted w/this game. It has some genuinely scary parts (especially the last chapter) but most of it is wandering around a spookyish forrest trying to figure out where to go & what to do. For much of the game you are accompanied by your dog Bullet while searching for a missing boy. I assume I'm supposed to be invested in the boy and his fate but Bullet was the only thing I cared about. #OffTheBacklog #Gaymer (continued)

A short and strangely satisfying game where you move a hole around in the ground to swallow things up. The more things that fall in the bigger the hole gets. Puzzle aspects are slowly added but never get all that hard. If you need something simple to 'wind down' with when you aren't feeling up to a game that requires more mental energy then this is great to have in your back pocket. #donutcounty #OffTheBacklog #Gaymer

South Park: The Stick of Truth
Completed all quests & side quests but only got 29/30 Chinpokomon (Damn shoe!), 111/121 friends & 59/103 items.

A pretty amazing (& funny) game. Packed w/references to #SouthPark episodes, satire of video games/gaming culture etc. The map & quest list means it’s hard to get stuck for too long. This is easily the best #RPG I’ve played yet. Battles are a joy & the length is perfect. After years of BAD games #stickoftruth is a total redemption! #OffTheBacklog #Gaymer

Dagon
This isn’t a game like others, it’s more like the audio book of a short story but instead of illustrations you are in a video game style world where you can look around and inspect things after listening. Took me under an hour to finish and is plenty dark/spooky. If you are a fan of #Lovecraft or just always wanted to see what all that stuff is about then this will be well worth the modest investment of time. The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
100%ed this switch port. Time will tell if the tilt shift and plastic look holds up but the orchestral soundtrack is amazing and just like the original the world and story are both a little dark and strange in a beautiful way.
