CW: Relationship and separation stuff; getting things off my chest
I may delete this later.
This year my marriage of ten years ended. We separated at Easter and I moved out that weekend. Reasons are complex but are founded on incompatibility and fundamental disagreements on how to lead our lives on the rural property we bought seven+ years ago.
I bear no particular grudges towards my ex wife. We try to keep things civil and so far are succeeding. Our daughter has adapted to the situation much better than expected.
I have however realised that I'm resentful towards my ex's family.
They were there on the day I moved out. They kinda sorta helped me a bit here and there. It was probably awkward for them as much as it was for me. Best case they treated me like a roommate that happened to be moving out. Worst case they pretended I wasn't there. I was ten seconds from breaking into tears the entire day.
In the eight months since then, not one of them has managed to pick up the phone and check in. Not one. Yes, some of them I wouldn't have expected to to so in a million years. But others? Would it be too much to ask to even just send a text? "Hey mate, sorry this happened. How are you holding up?"
I was part of that family for ten years, and they all have known me for longer than that. I was married to their daughter and sister.
If me being resentful about that is unjustified, I'll be happy to be set straight. But to be treated like that is fucking disappointing. If I'm honest with myself, it still hurts.

I enjoy a retro hobby or two (#retrogaming mostly) and a lot of retro #music, but when someone says they genuinely miss the 80s and 90s *as a whole*, I view them with suspicion. Like, were you just not affected by the incredibly pervasive bigotry back then (yes, it was worse than today) or were you an active participant?

Got asked today if I wanted to optimize my animation process using AI. Tech bros don't seem to get why anyone would want to do anything themselves and instead offer AI as the ultimate solution. Then continued to imply my business isn't effective enough.
Bro, I get you don't often get to create anything at all yourself, but let the rest of us keep doing what we love.

I feel like every YouTuber who capitalizes their public persona on being just a wholesome, down-to-earth guy, inevitably gets exposed for being a complete asshole in private.
I can think of four examples: the first abandoned their partner at the hospital to go drinking; the second got exposed for sex with a minor; the third cracked down on unions at his media company; and the fourth was caught speeding 95 mph in a 35 mph residential area. #youtube #offmychest

To be honest: The #Linux in-#kernel implementation of the #CIFS protocol kind of sucks, from a UX point of view. Multi user only works (so so) in an AD environment, and his noodliness forbids you disconnect the network before unmounting.
Granted, other network filesystems do suck, too. But CIFS is what's most widespread out there. And it's annoying that the GVFS variant has better UX overall, but has a crappy DE attached to it.

It is literally not my problem you have mostly female therapists. If someone doesn’t feel comfortable opening up to a female therapist and needs a male therapist, you need to acknowledge that instead of mentioning that and making me feel like a inconvenience. Maybe try hiring an even number of both before complaining.

You all fucking gave me flashbacks through all of your unfilterable political posts and patronization because you couldn't take just one fucking minute to put in Alt-Text for images with very few words or content warnings for political posts. People complaining about not having enough reach on the #fediverse don't understand why it exists.
If I may be so horrendously blunt, we're not here to whore out our names. We're here to build meaningful connections with actual human beings, not walking (self-)advertisements.
Please, just *try* to get a feel for this place before you decide to plaster it o'er with mindless commercialism.

@Zoso reminded me of something that made a huge impact on my barely seven year old self back in 1991. Tomorrow, 31 years ago, Freddie Mercury died.
I have a very strong emotional bond to #Queen and #Freddie in particular, because this was the first music I was actively listening to. I was raised with Queen.
Although I was very young, I had tears in my eyes when I heard the news. I have tears in my eyes writing this now.
