  3. Wangrow Electronics SystemOne #NMRADCC for #modelrailroads was an early entry. While Wangow has been gone for 20 yrs, the SystemOne is still very capable. #NCE was a contractor for both components and software.

NCE would later go it alone, and Wangrow would struggle to create their own software before ceasing business operations.

  5. A number of command control systems have appeared for #modelrailroads over the years.

None were overly successful as incompatibility was the rule. The #NMRA would eventually create a standardized system called "Digital Command Control" in 1993.

    dccwiki.com/LocoNet/Making_a_L

It is critical that the type of RJ connectors match the type of wire it will be crimped on to. Stranded wire needs a plug meant for stranded wire.

Plus a good set of crimpers. Cheap ones often don't work well.

  25. Another Throttle Network is XpressNet

XpressNet is the throttle bus used by Lenz. Originally called X-Bus.

XPressNet is a serial protocol built on RS485. Other manufacturers also implement XPressNet for their DCC systems.

    The Cab Bus:

NCE's Throttle Network protocol. A polled network supporting up to 63 addresses. Wangrow's System One & PSI's Dynatrol also employed the Cab Bus. A subset s is the Control Bus, which links boosters together.

  27. DCCWiki covers a wide range of topics related to Digital Command Control (DCC) and railroad modelling. Here are some of the topics you can find on DCCWiki:

    1. Introduction to DCC
    2. Selecting a DCC System
    3. Wiring for DCC
    4. Decoders
    5. Command Station Configuration
    6. DCC Standards

  28. What is the 'Bushby Bit' found in #Digitrax DCC command stations?

The '''Bushby Bit''' is a software switch which prevents turnout changes via the throttle, giving control to the dispatcher or Central Traffic Control.

  29. Short Circuits & DCC:

Short circuits are bad in any instance. With #digitalcommandcontrol, boosters supply a lot of current, so a short is a very bad thing.

Most boosters use "rate of change." A sudden spike triggers the protection circuit. Therefore a short can occur, but the booster cannot see it.

With energy storage in multiple vehicles a false trigger is possible.

  30. Decoder Programming Lock is an #NMRADCC optional feature to lock a decoder so it cannot be programmed. This allowed additional decoders in the same vehicle to be programmed individually using a common address.

CVs 15 & 16. If active only CV15 can be read, all others return "Decoder not found".

  31. Quick Guide to #NMRADCC Consisting:

Basic: Multifunction Decoders share a Primary or Extended Address.

Advanced: Consist Address created by command station and written to CV19 in each multifunction decoder in the consist.

Command Station: Consist managed by the command station. It keeps track of which locomotives are part of the consist.

  34. An optional DCC configuration value is CV11, Packet Timeout.

It determines how long a multifunction decoder will wait until stopping when not receiving valid data packets.

Being optional, some manufacturers may use CV11 for other purposes.

DCC: Run your trains, not the track!

  35. Digital Command Control supports automated braking, in several forms. It is important to note that the multifunction decoder must support this feature.

One of the simplest to implement is Asymmetric DCC. Five low cost diodes and it's done.

  36. Digitrax DCC systems have a feature called the Bushby Bit.

Exactly what is it, and what does it do?

Answer: When active, operators cannot throw turnouts with their throttle, the dispatcher must do it.
