  1. Picked up a Bachmann Old Timer combine to see if I could steal its trucks for the CB&Q waycar. Have some mechanicals to sort out with it still but looks a lot better than the stock Bettendorf freight trucks already.

  3. It's pretty wild how much of a difference the N-Possible couplers make.

This was a low-lift conversion using N-Possible URS in a MT box (a 2004, perhaps?) since Kato's OG coupler is massive and a SBX I put in there just twisted around with all that space.

Still need to do something about the length of the shank somehow - probably by doing it properly and drilling a new hole to mount a SBX.

  5. Little bit more progress on the module this weekend - track fixed (with nails for the moment) and wired up.

I've been thinking about modelling a tiny CBQ depot on the module, as part of a fictional branch. So I was planning on putting down a single track, but relented at the last minute and installed both — the whole point of a T-Trak module is to plug it into a larger layout, and lets face it everyone else will have two track mains, so it's most useful doing same.

  7. RE: mastodon.online/@Pepijn/116953

I'm into model trains. It's a hobby that attracts people who like to explore. If for some individuals tinkering with LLM fits into that I kinda get their interest.

Over the last half year small companies and hobbyist alike started blatantly sharing LLM generated images though. And it truly puzzles me: in a hobby based around physically modelling a small version of the real world, what's the point?!?

Is your hobby being contaminated by #AI slop as well?

  9. How do you reason it makes sense to promote a real product aimed at people making physical objects.. and then use fake images made by AI?

For everyone considering this product: the images shown by AZROCK / armballast.com are not actual photos of their product.

edit: image, note for example the disappearing sleeper below the track, third from bottom

  11. It's shame Kato doesn't make Unitrack in code 55 or even code 40. Would make T-Trak a lot more appealing for building an actual layout from.

  13. Picked up one of Mark Jesser's laser cut ply T-Trak single modules to take for a test run.

Very nicely done, fits together well. Looking forward to putting it together and get some track and scenery on it - this will be the first time I've actually had some track down in something like 40 years.
