  2. CW: Finally finishing #WhenTheStarsGossip and

    @commonst Hah! It is indeed better to read elsewhere than reading comments in #MyDramaList. People in MDL hates the show. Many of MDL commenters are too shallow, it's as if you're talking to teenagers.

    You'll lose hope with humanity if you see the comments against #WhenTheStarsGossip .

    Anyway, won't spoil. 😉

  3. @JillsJoy there are some surprises! I didn't expect the faces in Most Watched support roles, for instance.

    I just went to look & can't find it. Is there a menu link on MDL for the list?

    That made me wonder about **My**DramaList

    4 new watching
    2 party watching
    2 rewatching
    176 finished

    10 partially watched, on hold

    100 plan to watch

    Only about 5% incomplete - unless you add in my Plan to Watch - then my watching is only 63% complete.

    The problem is that every time someone here mentions another show, my PTW list grows.

  6. LOL. If you don't want people replying to you, then don't post anything in public. Also, don't whine if you were called-out when you did it first. ^_^

    My Drama List's Advanced Search is great for this.

    Here is a link to a search for all the South Korean dramas (not movies/tv shows, etc) on Netflix in 2023 & 2024. There were 49 results.

    You can further refine it by including or excluding genres (on the right on a desktop browser).

    My Dearest was the only one of those I watched.
    Apparently, I really like "My" shows because #MyMister, also with #LeeSyunKun and #MyDemon with #SongKang is the newest show that I love. SO many others!! I'd have to review my Big List, and update #MyDramaList as well. I only started watching #kdrama last spring and I'm full-on obsessed now. I've learned a LOT of #korean and intend to visit next spring, if all goes well, circling the peninsula to hit all my favourite locations.

  9. #MyDramaList Year End Summary

    Like usual, #LeeSunKyun was bound to show up on it. He is almost guaranteed to be on it, and if he wasn't it was because I had mostly rewatched his content then seen his new stuff. I am not looking forward to seeing him disappear from this list.

    I did do my own watch list this last year with all my rewatched dramas and movies on it. Once I finish compiling the data I'll share.

    According to MDL I saw 53 new #kDramas in 2023.

  10. @JillsJoy

    You can tell I was on a Park Hyung Sik & Park Seo Joon quest this year. In my top dramas, all but Mr. Queen had at least 1 of them in the show, & they were the leads in the few movies I watched.

  11. #MyDramaList yearend summary:
    #kdrama
    The stats are slightly skewed because DP and My Dearest counted as 2 and 1 movie added actors to the list. Also, shows with Lee Jae-Wook and Ji Chang-Wook don't show up last year because they're still in progress.

  12. CW: Rant mode, re: #MyDramaList database

    The #MyDramaList Asian movie and TV database doesn't have the best minds.

    Last month, they implemented a "new" rule that they will follow episode listings for #Kdrama based on how the episodes are listed in Korea.

    This was the rule they cited to justify their decision to split #DeathsGame into Parts 1 and 2.

    (One main staff even had the audacity to blame Korea for the confusion in MDL. Like, LOL, MDL doing its own thing is what's causing confusion in the first place!)

    I told them that the best solution is to WAIT if the official source will reset the episode count back to E01.

    Nope. MDL did their own thing still, stood by their own "new" rule.

    Guess what? They were utterly wrong.

    * TVING official episode listing: tving.com/contents/E004083443

    * Even their International OTT partner followed TVING: amazon.com/Death/dp/B0CP7PVZPM

    As per the OFFICIAL sources, Season 01 episode counting is from 01 to 08.

    Contrary to the claims by MyDramaList that Korea caused the confusion by splitting the show into Part 1 and Part 2.

    Clearly, there is no evidence to back the claim of #MDL that
    1. #TVING split the show to Parts 1 and 2.
    2. The episode count was reset back to E01 for the remaining 4 episodes.

    They refused to listen to my suggestion, so now, they just created a whole mess of their database and community.

    Korea is not making things confusing, it is their staff that is making things confusing. All they have to do is follow the official sources, as they claim they are doing (but not).

    If the official source listed the episodes like this:

    * S01 Part 1 E01, 2, 3
    * S01 Part 2 E01, 2, 3

    Then we follow that and split the show into Parts 1 and 2.

    Otherwise, if the official source listed the episodes like this:

    * S01 E01, 2, 3
    * S01 E04, 5, 6

    Then we should follow that REGARDLESS when the other episodes were scheduled to be released/aired.

    Everyone else, like TMDb, IMDb, etc., are following the official sources. But MDL wants to do its own thing, then blame Korea for causing confusion.

    I called them out for one last time. If they don't fix this, then that's the final nail in the coffin: they lie about following Korea's style.

  13. @JillsJoy @hanktank61

    This is a great reason for My Drama List. Go to a drama you like there - like "Alchemy of Souls" click on the "Cast & Crew" - you'll see the Hong sisters as screenwriters. Click on one of them and you'll have a list that you can easily add to your "Plan-to-Watch" list.

    I really have no excuse. One of my past jobs was designing databases for data warehouses. I could make a database.

    MDL has an API - maybe I'll look into that for a 2024 project......

  15. LOL. It took me 2 full years to finish watching #YumisCells #유미의세포들 (season 1) according to my tracker via #MyDramaList. From 2021-11-04 to 2023-11-04. Season 01: 8 out of 10 from me, #YourOnlyOne ^_^ #Kdrama #TV #RomCom
  16. @liztai
    TIL that #MyDramaList has a "not interested" category. Sounds like another one to add to my list, thanks!

  17. @jcurries @jillithd
    Great. #MyDramaList has a "not interested" category. I would probably have avoided #StrongWomanDoBongSoon if I'd known that the "romcom" was based around a serial kidnapper of women!
    And her best friend is one of the victims, with exactly zero reference to any of the traumatic after-effects! She just travels home to Busan without another word.

  18. @KDramaQn @jodmentum @whoosh @Erzbet @emmaaum
    I was so happy when folks shared about #MyDramaList because it's more efficient and social than just writing down shows in a book. I've accumulated series at a rather terrifying rate.

    Great #kdrama community here and lots of us are also learning #hangul. A bunch of us shared #MyDramaList profiles yesterday. I just joined that.
