  1. CW: My Liberation Notes (End)

@joakimfors I figured We Are All Trying Here might not suit me. People say it has #MyMister or #MyLiberationNotes vibes and I couldn't even get to the end the 1st episode in MM.
The dialogues are actually the reason I kept watching MLN. And later the humour.
It's deep, insightful, sometimes hilarious too. It has many good qualities, however filling up pieces of the past puzzle to just get a sad picture at the end isn't what I personally like in a #kDrama

I never did do the rewatch of #MyMister and #MyLiberationNotes that you organized! I'm heading into the dark and cold season when I'll be spending more time at home, so maybe? But, there are also so many shows that I haven't yet seen, like #Jirisan, so I don't rewatch as much as I think that I will.

The show is SUCH a marvel, although many folks find it too dark. For me, it's a tremendously hopeful show about the power of perseverance.

  4. @jcurries My Mister is great. Try watching My Liberation Notes (same writer) too. Might be hit or miss as it is quite “special”. However, I like it even more than My Mister. The tension, atmosphere and dialogue(/monologue) in some sections is just exquisite

  5. @EllenInEdmonton It's male-dominated but the few ladies in the cast get a lot of screen time and are definitely key characters.
I am not against realistically portraying a male-dominated world. It was like that in #Misaeng too and I loved that #kdrama
On the other hand I'm totally turned off by those k-dramas that in the first 20-30 minutes do not include any interesting dialogue with a female character. That's why I dropped #MyMister for instance.

#Day22 A 2024 Drama that deserves the hype
    A 2018 drama that I watched in 2024 and gave a 10 to was #MyMister.
We watched in honour of #LeeSunKyun following his death by suicide. His acting, and that of #IU were stunning, as was the story, the direction, the cinematography, and the OST.
It's a bleak story and show for the most part but illustrates magnificently the power of having a single person who believes in you.

  7. @s1m0n4 #mrplankton is a classic! If #mymister hits Bergman-esque notes, #mrplankton channels Godard’s ‘Breathless’. It’s wonderful madcap, funny and tragic.

  8. @whoosh @sirsean #KimJiWon was the glue for #MyLiberationNotes and I loved the slice-of-life drama. Same writer as #MyMister but more upbeat with a lot of humour. #kdrama

  9. @s1m0n4
The mystery that was never solved to my satisfaction was why the chairman sponsored him to get his position. It seems very strange to me that someone so unqualified would be given a 2-year position at a conglomerate like this one.
I did enjoy the characters and acting a lot. Have you watched #MyLiberationNotes? For me, that was slice-of-life perfection (same writer as #AnotherMissOh and #MyMister). Each of the 3 siblings had a wonderful story arc, IMHO. I loved them so much!

Oh, I hear you! I really appreciated #LeeSunKyun in #CoffeePrince. After his murder, I watched #MyMister and felt like I really got to know him intimately as he portrayed his character SO eloquently, almost entirely through his facial expressions and posture.
I'm so distressed for his widow, #JeonHyeJin, also a gifted factor, and their young sons, exiled to the US.

  11. @KDramaQn @EllenInEdmonton I’m still early in my binge but I’m liking it a lot. #MyMister is in my all time top 5 and I also liked #AnotherMissOh quite a bit. Same writer and a lot of great actors. #kdrama

  12. @Fanua @whoosh
My Dearest was the only one of those I watched.
Apparently, I really like "My" shows because #MyMister, also with #LeeSyunKun and #MyDemon with #SongKang is the newest show that I love. SO many others!! I'd have to review my Big List, and update #MyDramaList as well. I only started watching #kdrama last spring and I'm full-on obsessed now. I've learned a LOT of #korean and intend to visit next spring, if all goes well, circling the peninsula to hit all my favourite locations.

    My Mister
    (2018 - Viki, 16 1:17 eps)

Watched in memory of Lee Sun Kyun. One of the best dramas I've watched. Acting, costuming, directing, lighting, effects, & music all contribute to a beautifully executed story.

Slice of life drama about 3 middle-aged brothers' relationships, showing the depression that hits when you realize that everything you thought you wanted means nothing.

Slow-pacing, sparse dialogue, & drab colors reflecting emotions change as feelings are explored. The effects for flashbacks & intoxication are inspired. Symbolism abounds - an empty hand to make you sob.

There is a touching relationship with grandma that rips at your heart. You learn what hopelessness vs. 1 small ray of hope does to change a life.

Not a light watch, but even with its darker side, it's very comforting. The talent of Lee Sun Kyun is a great loss.

  14. @templarknight I just finished watching #MyMister today and this was the very best production I've ever seen, up to now. #LeeSunKyun was epic. I'm just gutted to think that his life ended in such a cruel way. #kdrama
