  1. Was fehlt: schnell-zusammensteckbare Bausätze von #R290 (Propan) #Minisplit #Klimaanlagen

IDK?

  2. I finally know what these are

One day I just noticed these and thought they were cool—and since then, I see these *everywhere* in my neighborhood. I don't remember seeing these everywhere. Was there a point in which they became popular?

These are #ductless air conditioners. Also called #minisplit ACs

  4. Realized that my mini-split installation might be weird because of the trailer wall curvature. Tried researching if it was OK to mount the interior evaporator/fan unit at an angle without luck. Would seem to be fine, but reached out to an HVAC guy in the Festiva Group to double check.

Nope. Needs to be as close to 90 degrees as possible or better yet angled back a little. The refrigerant doesn't care, but there will be condensation that needs to drain.

Guess I'll have to build a frame for it that compensates for the wall curvature.

  5. After two winters of heating my backyard greenhouse (tropical plants) with fan blown electric resistance heating (read: electric space heater), I'm looking for a more efficient method.

I see others using methane or propane, but, yuck and I don't want to cause an explosion.

I haven't seen examples of people doing it, but would it be possible to wire up a 120v mini split?

  7. Does anyone have recommends for book or website I can use to educate myself on options for upgrading a postwar bungalow from a gas furnace + AC to heat pump(s)? The book I have is OK for basic principles but I’m looking for more what units are available, cost, installation pitfalls.

I have asthma which is aggravated by the current system blowing dust around summer + winter. Primary motivation is comfort, better energy efficiency would be bonus points. #HVAC #HeatPump #minisplit #renovation

  8. Last fall, I installed a #Turbro #MiniSplit #HeatPump from #HomeDepot in the back yard shed we call the "MicroBarn". Read the Alt Txt - that's where the story is. But this is about #Histeresis and failure to exploit it.

  9. @moldybasil
I've only just learned of the #minisplit, and am quite interested is this efficient technology! Shall follow .

A third problem with AC in an upstairs bedroom is that you can't predict how the temperature will “bounce” up if you turn it off.

    “Comfy Mode” allows on/off parameters.

I set the thermostat on Dry Mode to 66, but comfy mode is going to turn the unit off if it gets under 68. If it goes over 69, Comfy Mode on Cielo goes back on. That protects from waking up hot if it bounces. And it won't cycle on/off a whole lot, not nearly as bad as the scrolling near the set point

  11. Cooling trick for a bedroom #Heatpump for sleeping:

As you know if you have one, a #minisplit heatpump will not run in a way that necessarily respects the thermostat setting. Two problems you get sleeping with the AC: it overshoots, so you freeze. And it starts to modulate when it approaches the setpoint, so it spools up and down distractingly.

So I use an external thermostat, a Cielo Breeze. It has a setting called “comfy mode.” 1/

  12. I mean, what percentage of Vermonters even have air conditioning. 40, 30, 20 years ago I didn't know anyone who had it in their home in #vermont. I guess 20 years ago I got a window unit for my office. Window unit here in the livingroom is now superseded by a #minisplit #heatpump. I've got to imagine this event coming up is going to be potentially deadly, some elderly people in poor health in an upstairs bedroom. #climatechange #globalwarming

  13. We turned the heat down a couple degrees on the minisplit heatpump while we were gone for Christmas. Our basement and main floor are heated with the HP, top floor is baseboard (turned those down too).

We left Saturday and returned today/Wednesday. Temperature went from normal around 21-22°C down to just over 18°C (64°F).

With no one in and out of the house the temperature only really fluctuated with the temperature outside, which was mainly stable around 2-4°C until Monday night when it warmed up to 10°C.

I am probably the only person that finds this interesting. 🤷‍♂️ 🤓

  14. IT’S ALIVE! Only one real flub up but was quickly fixed, remember to CORRECTLY torque the line set!

  15. I've always called them "mini-splits," which is a very popular category of heat pump not mentioned in this article.

    How about #minisplit?

Also, yea, I check out the brand spanking new LGs and Mitsubishi's when I walk these Boise alleys and critique installs. It's coming along.

  16. Wondering whether to let an air source #minisplit #heatpump run and suck in snow during a heavy storm, or if it's better to turn it off and burn oil during the heavy snow event? Any #greenenergy #heating geeks with an informed opinion? I read a study that moderate use of the defrost cycle uses like 5% or 7% extra energy (it seemed like a good study, but I didn't save it). But in heavy snow it will be freezing solid over and over.

  17. #Fujitsu #MiniSplit #Heatpumps holding up on this pretty cold day in #Vermont. -11F now and dropping, turned off the downstairs unit that was holding the line all day. Did it because the woodstove has a nice hickory log in it. Upstairs unit is still heating the bedroom. These things work.
