Until your new OSM account gets rate-limited, that is 😄 Apparently that just happens at every Mapathon with beginners, no way around it. We did MapSwipe as we waited - also great, I foresee a lot of swiping in my near future.

This week is a bit crazy for me and I was questioning myself when I signed up for this, but absolutely no regrets, I really had fun. 2/2

I attended a cool event yesterday, a "Mapathon" for the Missing Maps project (https://missingmaps.org/). We learned about Missing Maps, about Medicins Sans Frontieres and their activities in South Sudan (which we would be mapping), how to pick up a mapping task at HOT Task Manager (https://tasks.hotosm.org/), and finally how to work in JOSM. Pretty easy when someone walks you through it, and honestly a fun activity. 1/2

The new governance team has met for the first time this week. The agenda included onboarding new members, agreeing to another interim meeting this month to work through documents and processes for the next 18 month cycle, and passing a motion. A summary of the governance meeting is posted on the MapSwipe Slack channel after each meeting.

Last week at Paléo Festival in Switzerland, visitors had a chance to discover #MapSwipe. Many of them took their first swipe, helped detect buildings and roads in Chad and Indonesia to support ongoing Missing Maps campaigns and even downloaded the app to keep contributing beyond the festival! 🚀

MapSwipe harnesses the collective strength of volunteers to actively contribute to #geospatial data projects. From identifying infrastructure to tracking environmental changes and validating map data, MapSwipers help improve map data across the world.

In 2023 I also contributed to #OpenStreetMap in another way than editing the map. Trough #MapSwipe I helped organizations like Médecins Sans Frontières, who needes maps of unmapped areas to help people there, by looking trough satellite photos and marking areas with houses or roads, or stuff like that.

A really easy way to help the world while waiting for something or while on the toilet. Give it a try!

I swiped 6.8k times, for a total of 5h 57m, mostly on Wednesdays.

The mapping is sometimes mapping out new stuff, and sometimes doing a lot of "why are none of these outlines rectangles?!", which is something the tooling makes very easy to fix very quickly, and it's quite satisfying!
