  6. This. Build our own institutions. They'll succeed.

"#Keene is the eponymous tastemaker at the helm of a new #imprint within #WickedSonPress, a 5-year-old #publisher that has released mostly #nonfiction that leans right.

#MegKeene #Books will release four to six #novels over the next year that she and #WickedSon’s founders believe will elevate #Jewish voices and reconstruct a bygone communal Jewish #literary conversation. She’ll also edit a forthcoming #literarymagazine designed to shape the Jewish #book-buying audience.

“My goal is to make Jewish #publishing feel really cool,” Keene told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.

“I’m planning to acquire books across genres — male authors, female authors, romance, thriller, literary fiction — you know, the works,” she added. “I also intend to put everything I have behind each book, and sort of ask the Jewish community to support these books and make the case for them.”

  8. look at the vagabond

    look at the vagabond
see that his ears are cropped

ask was it yesterday his feet
    were locked in the stocks

ask was it last week he couldn’t
pull his head nor his hands from the pillory

    say tell me stranger
was it a month ago the good people
of wittenburg threw offal at you

    smell that he’s putrid

ask if under the wool of his doublet
the once white linen of his smock is slashed
with dried blood ask if he was whipped

ask if for the hours of the night
or if for years of a long dark he was
fettered in the dungeon under job’s castle1

look that his eyes blink against daylight
or that it’s his terrors that blink his eyes say

to the man who walks the world alone
return with me to the town
i’ll give you a company to walk with
and a regiment to walk with the company

I read a whole lot in June! It has been very good. A distraction that is also deeply invasive and utterly important.
    I loved:
I Who Have Never Known Men, A Protest History of the United States, and The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. Very excellent. And I couldn't get enough of Deborah Levy, particularly her nonfiction.

  10. One more followup. Something many of you know already but in case some of you don't: #DuaLipa founded possibly the most potent #podcast for #books currently in the #literature #literary world. Partly because of her reach as a #popIcon but also because, as many #authors she has interviewed say, she delivers thoughtful deep dives. Dua Lipa is really admirable

  12. I’ve been getting a lot of #literary #rejections this year. As in not acceptances at my usual (low) rate. As in no acceptances. None. Zero. Nada. I usually get a few but no more. So you can read this, and feel better for me. #writinglife

  13. Someone sent this to me earlier today.

Now it is stuck in my head because I apparently never looked at them as I was stuffing them in my mouth.

It's like the winning lottery numbers in that old fortune cookie I threw away years ago all over again. Sigh.

I don't believe I was always so oblivious to details but here I am.
