  1. You might be surprised by the amount of car-centric infrastructure baked into this mid-sized Midwestern city. That's a lot of concrete baking in the sun.

Further, if Eden Prairie doesn't have an apple orchard, or a reptile shop, it's missing an opportunity.

Looking forward to the Farmers Market stop and the Micro Center (Wooddale Ave.) stop, near the manufacturing home of the Bundt pan. You'd rather not have to drive there if you can help it.

  5. @timrichards @andyjennings @feather1952 when I worked in welfare services in the 1990s, we handed out paper Canberra bus tickets to people we’d just given paper food vouchers to, so they could get to the charity providing the food without a car.

In the 2010s when I worked at a women’s service, we handed out Canberra bus day passes and supermarket gift cards.

This is why the Canberra transport ticketing system today still has a way for people to buy a prepaid card at newsagents or vending machines. It doesn’t have to be linked to a phone if you don’t have one or it’s being surveilled, and support services can still buy them to hand out to clients.

  9. From the article:

Yonah Freemark, senior researcher at the Urban Institute, was the first to notice something was up, when he spotted an eye-popping count of 4.8 million Sound Transit light rail and streetcar boardings for April, in the National Transit Database.

“The most ridden in the nation, above L.A., Boston, or San Diego,” he posted on Bluesky this week.

  11. Northgate Mall Owner Goes Big on Housing... And Even Bigger on Parking

A 7-minute walk from the nearby light rail station is nothing to boast about. At the very least, they should have made the path sheltered.

  13. Great news Tacoma, Sound Transit voted last night in favor of keep the Tacoma light-rail extension project with tentative opening of 2035. Which is still so very far away. 🫣

  14. 🎶 Working at the Car Wash..
(and taking photos of trapped passengers)

Some light-rail users in Montreal were mistakenly taken to the train wash after boarding the Réseau express métropolitain (REM) on Friday morning.

This really seems like an Oops moment.
