I just rode it with a friend! A driver is at the wheel training the software. It takes 8 minutes between the MARTA station and the district.

The Beltline arborteum is an underrated, but seriously appreciated part of the project. In the Spring, I love seeing all the native plants and flowers blooming along the trail. The Westside, with its larger easements, has especially large plantings.

The construction here is more impressive than any other segment I've seen. The trail is often on hilly terrain and includes massive concrete ramps (unfinished) connecting to the neighboring areas.

The beltline made a big investment in planting many large trees along the new segment. Some are showing signs of water stress, so I hope they have a plan to water them, because we can't rely on the sky this year, and it would be a shame to lose those trees. The southern edge of the trail does seem to have a temporary irrigation system under construction.

There is also some nice graffiti where the beltline passes under a bridge. And here's a close up of the entrance mural by the artist seven.

I made it down to the new Beltline segment, completing the SE section. Here is my impression (and photos). At the opening by Glenwood road, there is a beautiful mural by Aysha Pennerman. It looks like an African savanna scene at sunset - pink and orange sky, and the silhouette's of acacia trees and elephants, where the elephants are highlighted with pink and sky blue.
The right-most panel is by a different artist (the Artist Seven) and shows a woman lying in the grass. -
What are these fluffy trees? I didn't recognize them at all.

Since the winter storm came in later than expected, I took the chance to try the #EUC on the #Beltline. I thought it would be a short trip, but ended up going from Ansley to Piedmont Park and on to Ponce City Market.
Got to see a bunch of great murals and graffiti! I was surprised to see so many people out in the park and on the beltline for such a cool and damp day.

This spot in Atlanta looks abandoned, industrial, and a bit of a wasteland but it is right at the intersection of MARTA and the Southside Beltline. Hopefully, over the next 20 years, it will become a hub of commercial activity and affordable housing.

After a series of false starts and delays, the long awaited Atlanta Beltline segments 4 and 5 that will run behind Ormewood Park, and connect the Bill Kennedy to points south and west kicked back into gear last month. While the Beltline organization estimates Fall 2025 completion, it may slip again to Spring 2026.

The #Atlanta #Beltline is a rail-trail urbanism success story. It had a space specifically set aside for light rail, allowing people to traverse between clusters of transit-oriented development using multiple modes.
Yet, the city's mayor is getting cold feet putting in the streetcar, thanks to lobby groups funded by conservative & fossil-fuel dark money.
So Atlanta residents, please tell your council, #MARTA and the mayor to get this started, avoid delays and alternative boondoggles. #trains
