I was feeling brave this morning so made a silly decision to install #ios27 on the least powerful device that I have.

As we speak, my mighty #iphone13mini is running iOS 27. Its only been like 5 minutes so its super hot but the Melbourne winter may keep it nice and cool.

I am counting on the optimised CPU Scheduler in iOS 27 to help my beloved #iPhoneMini

If they had picked me instead of John Ternus, there would be three iPhone sizes: regular, mini, and max. And the iPhone 12/13 mini would be the size of the regular iPhone, with an even smaller one as the mini. Gimme a 4.5” diagonal edge-to-edge display and I’d be living life.

I just yesterday played around with an #iPhoneAir in the shop and ... it looks nice, but really it's pretty awkward. It's large, which is annoying in itself, but the thinness made it seem even trickier to handle than a regular #iPhone. But the price was higher and with less features.

So would not be my choice.

I wanted my phone to be a bit more grippy but didn’t want a case that adds any bulk. I had seen a product from Nomad that just covered the slippery back glass of the newer iPhones using the MagSafe ring. I liked that idea as being somewhere between a skin and a case. But I have an iPhone 13 mini. A 4 yo phone that wasn’t even popular when it was new. Meaning my options were limited to nonexistent. So I made my own thing. By editing the files for a 3D printed case I found online to get what I wanted, then using vinyl wrap and grip tape, I was able to get basically exactly what I wanted. And it even has my logo. It’s definitely not perfect but I’m pretty happy with the results.

I want to push back on your ‘small phones are never coming back’ thought in your 16e article.

You may be right, but the attitude that a small phone is not worth making is both frustrating, damaging, and very possibly just flat wrong.

Apples choices are almost always inscrutable. But even if we take for granted that mini sales were very low, that doesn’t mean it wasn’t profitable or successful.

If #Apple should make displays and routers, they should *certainly* make #iPhonemini.

Goddamnit #Apple, make a new #iPhonemini.

After using the big one for a few hours, I already see the mini as super tiny, but only when it comes to looking at the screen. However, if they ever make the mini size again in the future with new tech, I would go back again. I still love the small size. It’s the perfect phone size to carry around and hold. Long live the #iPhoneMini

#Apple really aggressively flipping the bird to people who want/value small (never mind pro-class powerful) devices these last few years.

If there is one thing that might get me off the #iPhone, after owning one since launch day 2007, it’s not having a new mini to buy in a year or two, by which time my 13 mini will be *old*…

I think the mistake #Apple made with the #iPhoneMini was to make it a second rate citizen. It was just a smaller, lower spec #iPhone. Instead they should have considered: what kind of unique #UX to offer in a smaller form factor? What device features would people like who go for small phones? How would they like to use it? What types of people use it? It should have been a unique product (and not called Mini).

From that POV #Palm with the #PalmPhone actually did a somewhat better job.

Sadly #Apple has dropped the #iPhoneMini entirely. Ever since #iPhone13 I found the standard #iPhone to be simply too large. It had grown even further from the #iPhoneX and was heavy and no longer fitted neatly into pockets. I had an odd mental block to getting a Mini with its light weight, but once I got over that it has been great.

Not sure where I’ll go next but the Mini at least is still doing the job. Albeit with a notch I’ve always hated and #Lightning port.
