@NorcalGma2 I only learned recently, from a new friend, that summers in California are *brown* & winters are *green*. 😂
Of course, where I grew up, in Quebec, it is the opposite, though both are in the same hemisphere!
It's always useful to lose an assumption; helps me remember to stay open-minded! It's especially important in coaching: it may take a little longer, but the work is more lasting when we use the *client's* visualisations - as we do with IFS.
I decided to mostly* retire this year. That brings various complications, but I must say, this whole "more time to read" thing ROCKS! 📚🤭 #bookstodon
* "mostly" = I won't compete with chatGPT for client attention. But I still happily coach every one who finds me! And I still offer one free hour, just ask. (Here's hoping the bubble bursts soon. I'll be here to help pick up the pieces, with a deeply compassionate, human touch … )

It's embarrassing to hear FOMO promotions of AI-in-coaching *coming from coaches* who profess to know better than to motivate through fear. 😠
As a result, I dixn't renew my local ICF chapter membership for now, although I still adhere to ICF Global.
AI-in-coaching is "a solution looking for a problem"*. I won't waste time on calls promoting that.

This is what I love about the Internal Family Systems (IFS) approach: the model is created by & with the client, in their context, language, metaphors, so it fits. It avoids dissonance & the need to "teach" a model first.
The client *knows*.

I crave human connection, and reviving the delightful complexity and uniqueness of individuals, and helping them make sense of their world, to find more joy and satisfaction. Especially, all these in tech being devalued and displaced by so-called "AI" LLMs right now.

Internal Family Systems would call the Creature an 'inner Exile' - with crushing emotions & child-like coping strategies. A Part deemed "unacceptable" - hurt, repressed, festering in the dark. Protecting itself with outbursts, demands, criticism. Self identified as "bad".
When Troy sees its pain & offers compassion, its energy decreases. It can explain itself & seems less threatening.
So, now you know what I do.

A stake in the ground:
Just took my courage in both hands & mentioned, in a thread on a professional forum, that I'm retiring, although #iLoveMyJob, because of changes in my profession - including too much time spent discussing so-called "AI coaching". I will not try to "compete" with AI offerings that are proliferating.
Coaching is deeply human, intuitive, multisensory, somatic work. #lifeCoach
(I'll continue to accept coachees who seek me out & playing w the idea of offering more pro-bono).
A EU client has booked me for 6am eastern tomorrow morning.

I have actually un-joined my local International Coaching Federation chapter, because too much of zoom airtime was people pushing so called "AI" - either as admin assistant, or to provide services (even coaching! 😱 ) to coachees. Lots of FOMO (seriously?)
SO boring. Wasting my time.
There are important things we should be talking about. Like how to support the deep grief my clients experience as "AI" impersonates & displaces them, & their fear as it steals their jobs. 😭
As AI chatbots invade my profession, I'm seeing fewer and fewer clients.
Ah, but it's so great when I do see them. 🤗

@rayckeith I'm a life coach, and it upsets me that folks are offered chatbot "coaches" which can neither see them, nor interpret non-verbal audio clues. Not to mention no embodied, real-world context.
So much of my work - both receiving and sending - is *around* the words!

Lacking a human nervous system, an "AI" chatbot cannot create the resonance that help coachees experiment *beyond* assumptions & blind spots.
@jannem @rayckeith … worse yet is the FOMO (from professional coaches!): "You have to use AI or get left behind!" 🤦♀️
Our profession is deeply human: intuitive, empathetic, sensing between the words, things the speaker cannot see themself.
That's what my clients value in our work. Oh and also, the courage to challenge them, to call clients on the out-of-date or untrue stories they tell themselves. No "agreeable" chatbot gives them that.

I am astonished to still see colleagues offering programs with FB and Whatsapp "community" elements, in 2025!
Nope, nope, nope.
Hopefully this will wake my colleagues up. Ours is a profession requiring deep trust and confidentiality. Meta products do not allow this.
(Oh, and: Meta consuming all their users' #AI transcripts and chatbot prompts!)
