Mark Twain, die Verkörperung dieses demokratischen Menschen, verstand diese Prämisse in jedem seiner Sätze, und wie er sie auf die Probe stellte, wie er sie verdrehte und reizte und testete, bis wir wieder ganz schwach wurden vor Liebe zu dieser Idee.

Saw someone quote one of my favorite quotes from literature, specifically Huck Finn: “All right, then, I'll go to hell.”
Huck decides to risk hellfire itself in order to save Jim, he stands up to God (or his perception of God) and says, "No, you are asking me to do something wrong and I defy you." It is powerful stuff.And then Tom Sawyer shows up at the end, and Tom treats it all as a game, and he PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH. And now that I think about it, isn't he such a great representation of the "just asking questions" crowd, who want to debate the existence of minorities as if it were a school exercise?
