  1. A beautifully preserved Corythosaurus casuarius skull! This one was excavated from the Dinosaur Park Formation and is about 76 million years old. Corythosaurus, a variety of hadrosaur, was first discovered by Barnum Brown in the Red Deer River Valley, making this a truly Albertan species!

This specimen can be found in the Royal Tyrrell Museum of Palaeontology!

  5. For this week’s Fossil Friday, something a little different - a dinosaur hoodoo! This fossil, part of a hadrosaur, is more resistant to weathering than the surrounding rock. As the softer matrix erodes away, the fossil is left perched on its own pedestal. Found in the Horseshoe Canyon Formation, this hoodoo highlights the region's rapid erosion (sometimes up to 4 mm per year) which continually exposes new fossils.

  9. I remember that when I was 3 years old, I did not enjoy watching TV. What fascinated me most were the catchy, almost brainwashing advertisements. One day, while lying on the wooden sofa, my father asked my mother why other children all loved cartoons, yet I did not. He wondered if it meant I was a fool, and they began to worry about my intellectual development.

Then one day, that bulky television set started playing an episode of 3000 Whys of Blue Cat about dinosaurs. I was instantly captivated by the #hadrosaur that appeared on the screen.

23 years later, my first article on dinosaurs was published and fittingly, it was also about #hadrosaur. It was at the same time my first paper addressing the problem of phylogenetic data repeatability. I feel that this is the right path for me to pursue as a lifelong career.

  14. Did you know that you can find fossil dinosaur eggs in Alberta? In 1987 Wendy Sloboda, then a teenager, was scrambling around Devil's Coulee near Warner, Alberta when she came across the shells of what would later turn our to be eggs from a species of hadrosaur. There's now a wonderful museum, the Devil's Coulee Dinosaur Museum, which displays finds from the area and provides tours.

  18. I promise I am working hard on commissions! 🙏 But I had this sitting, almost complete... I worked so hard on it and love it so much. I wanted you guys to see it. This is my li'l parasaurolophus, Fern. This image will be the banner for any blog posts related to her and her story, "Fern's Path".

  19. A variety of replica hadrosaur skulls, part of a small temporary exhibition at Mansfield Museum in Nottinghamshire this summer. They appeared to be 3D-prints but the exhibition didn't explain their origin, so they might be from scans of fossils, or just models. Anybody recognise any?

They were mounted in an unusual way, loosely slotted onto long rods.
