  1. #Microsoft really doesn't want you to stop using #GitHub Sponsors.

So apparently I can't stop people from sponsoring me myself. And I can't disable #GitHubSponsors either, because I have people sponsoring me. The only thing I can do is to contact support and ask them to handle it.

Fortunately, there's a ready support link with pre-filled form. Except it doesn't work anymore, so you have to go through the new support request form yourself. And after you write the message yourself, it is fed to a completely useless LLM that tells you how to disable account. Except that the process doesn't work, because as the bottom hint notes, if you have any active sponsors, you need to contact support instead 🤦. Well, at least it eventually lets you send that support request.

At least #KoFi lets you remove memberships yourself. It also lets you remove the account entirely but apparently not deactivate it. For that, there's apparently a support request. Sent one, let's see how it goes.

  2. I've never used it for personal stuff, only for work, but since it's always a "process" to get an organization to #donate, here's to small personal donations to support #OpenSource #OSS and say their work is appreciated.

I admit, GitHub has made it really easy with #GitHubSponsors and they don't charge individuals a fee.

    Today's donation went to:

  5. CW: Charity / looking for work

I've updated my #KoFi and #GitHubSponsors profiles today. Since the bio is pretty limited in length, I've changed its main focus to the fact that I'm collecting money to feed the cats I've adopted, and that I'm struggling to find employment (type I diabetes combined with ASD), or make any real income. Or, to put it in other words, that I'm not trying to collect money for my #Gentoo work (that would be against the law) but #charity. But I'm also looking for employment and contracts, particularly related to Gentoo and/or #Python.

If you can spare a few coins, that would help a lot. Especially small amounts (~$1000 over a period of 6 years from a single person are tax-free, and therefore I don't need your detailed personal information).

  6. CW: Datki / szukanie pracy

Jeżeli możecie podarować mi parę monet, bardzo by to pomogło. Zwłaszcza małe kwoty (zdaje się, że 5733 PLN, przez okres 6 lat, od jednej osoby, jest wolne od podatku, więc nie potrzebuję waszych szczegółowych danych osobowych).

  9. Take a look at your favorite open source project, and ask yourself:
What are they worth to you?
What can you do to support them? Are you funding them? Sponsoring them?

  10. I've continued contributing to the Python communities because it truly makes me happy and fulfilled, and because I know I can make a difference in the Python community.

You can support and encourage me to continue doing what I do best by sponsoring me on GitHub.

  11. @artfulrobot i am also looking to diversify funding of our work on and would have started a similar thread soon.
so far i found this overview super helpful:

my main question: which aggregators can people recommend? opencollective.com/ looks interesting, in particular wrt open accounting. it looks like its largely - can people confirm? are there good alternatives, not please?

  12. If you're one of my sponsors on github, you should have gotten an 'Update' by email from me about #Genuary. I haven't yet found an easier way to do this, but I've sent a 'draft link' to an unlisted post on Medium, where I'll update each piece I created from each day's prompt.

A lot of the descriptions and images are still rough, so I'm only sharing them with my supporters. For now, at least.

  13. If someone is doing stuff out there in the world of that helps your company then paying them goes a long way to help with motivating (social recognition // cash) folks get items over the line.

Thanks to stuff like this is now possible

  14. @rauschma there is a fundamental issue on how you would handle in the EU from a tax perspective. They do not act as merchant of records but they don’t give enough data to emit proper invoices. It’s a mess pushed down to developers.

You’d need to sort it out with your tax accountant.

  15. Since donations are illegal in my country, I cannot have a or . So I've spent time and effort integrating payments and for my service, neither of which I would have had to do if the law wasn't so stupid.

Now it feels ready, but I'm scared to deploy it, because it deals with people's money and I'm afraid of making mistakes there. Annoying.

  16. After months of waiting, I’m finally in the GitHub Sponsors program.

  17. The first round of monthly payouts have gone out to developers in the #GithubSponsors beta.
