On the #xmpp front, I know if it were different times under different thoughts on interoperability, but wouldn't gchat and facebook messenger just need to remove their walls to make them interoperable?

The new threads feature that Google shoved into Gchat (or whatever the hell they're calling it now) has been wildly successful at making the app annoying. It's basically impossible NOT to accidentally start a thread when chatting with someone.
And then you're off in that thread while the other person thinks you're not responding at all. And you think they're not responding. It brings absolutely nothing good to the experience, and everything bad.
So it's basically got another point where I'm considering alternatives. Can anyone recommend some? I'm looking for something that's not too hard to use, because some of the people I chat with are not exactly technophiles. But it would be nice to have the option to send and receive images, as well as basic formatting options like italics and boldfacing.
I probably don't need to say this, but there's no way in hell I will ever use Facebook Messenger. Never never never. Nor am I interested in anything owned by a billionaire.
Speaking of getting away from Google, this was another day with effectively no YouTube. So that's good.

Interesting and long long long long overdue new integration for #GSuite between the old #GChat feature (now just gmail chat) and #google #meet chat. Meet chats now appear in GChat.
Got turned on at the tail end of my sabbatical and I started getting a flood of message notifications (now muted).
Since it got the flood of messages, I said hello to my team whilst not in the meeting to:
a) see if it got sent to the meeting room without me being in it
b) see if they missed meIt did. They didn’t

In Google docs, we can arrange content (text and images) anyway we want, but we can't make individual messages that can be replied to.
In Google chat, individual messages can be replied to, and we can edit the text of messages, but there's not yet a way to edit / add images to sent messages.
I could ask a recipient to go back to Google docs, and/or continue to use docs in addition to Google chat. But, it'd be nice if GoogleChat would add the ability to add images to sent messages.

If you used Google Talk, you may find your conversations by creating an archive of your Gmail "chat" label data.
