The pond is almost ready. I'm still fiddling with the pond skimmer, but a kitchen sieve is doing a fine job and that needn't stop returning the fish. I had plenty enough large and medium stones for the filter barrel, but I also need a layer of small stones and then pebble size, so I hold off with the fish for now.

Pond project.
25 fish have been captured and relocated to their holiday home. There were only 4 fish in the pond 14 years ago.
With the rim of concrete and brick I built some years ago we can add more depth. In the second photo I have built up a bed of sand for the laying of a new sheet of pond liner.

The other day I had to remove a trespassing alligator snapping turtle from my mother-in-law’s koi pond.
Got a cheap Aluminum fish landing net from Walmart, which had a short 2’ handle with a 1” diameter. Also got a 5’ section of 1” Sch 40 PVC pipe from the home improvement store to use as a handle extension.
With the grip off the net it slid neatly into the PVC pipe. Secured it in place with some screws. Because I wasn’t sure how sneaky I had to be to catch the turtle, I spray painted the whole thing with some flat camo paint I had on hand.
The turtle has had it easy in the pond, coming up to feed on koi food pellets during feeding time. Had my daughter throw some food in the deeper part of the pond that doesn’t have the false bottom where the fish can normally hide. After a few minutes the turtle came up and I was able to quickly scoop him up. That was one pissed dinosaur. 😁🎉
