We passed an old fire lookout position on the way out, so there was more peakbagging to be had before leaving Yolla Bolly-Middle Eel Wilderness in Mendocino National Forest.

[1/3] Once more into the Trinity Alps Wilderness, this time to wander among many cabins. The 1st day of the 3 day loop started with flowers on the way to long sections of ridge walking. It featured many birds and burned areas to complete the day where a fire lookout once stood at the top of Cabin Peak. Except the day wasn't quite done because we did still need to get back to camp.

After the hard work getting there, the last 2 of 8 miles fighting the fading trail and thick fingers of snow reaching from the north side, we decided against climbing the lookout stairs for the big reward of a superior view.

Went to one of my favorite places in the region today. Sometimes I wish I could just live here peacefully and watch the weather go by.
I first came to this L/O many years ago on a solo trip-chased by a black rain cloud that turned into snow; the fastest winds I'd ever seen as clouds flew past me and lightening cracked at 7,000ft elevation. Amazing storm that lasted less than 20 minutes before going blue.Top 3 moment of my life that I'll never forget.
