China Overland Part 4 is live: Shigatse to Saga via G318, Gyatso La, Everest North Base Camp, Rongbuk, Peiku Tso, and G219. Five 8,000m peaks, eco-bus rules, khata sendoff, wolf-claw road lore, turquoise lake, pilgrim buses, and lunch at altitude. Everest made us park. North Face, Shishapangma, Himalayan road day. Tiny lungs, big scenery. High-altitude Tibet. Cold, clear, high.

Battery hold downs: should they look like that?

Jan 11: power steering flush.
Jan 20: gas stop, hood pop, quick scan.

My battery was tipped off its tray and leaning into the radiator. No warning lights. No drama. Just a snapped ground wire and a lesson delivered in public, under fluorescent lights.

New habit: the battery wiggle check. Two seconds while the pump runs. If it moves, the hold-downs are not doing their job.

I knocked out a power steering fluid flush on the FJ and it was almost peaceful, right up until I realized I had nothing to cap the return port. Improvised. Spilled some. Learned a lot.

Epic drive today from Ahmedabad to Surat with Shehzadi, our world-touring Toyota Tundra (yes, PETROL, not diesel 😄). Flew down the super-smooth NE-4 and NH-48, crossed the mighty Narmada River, and rolled into buzzing Surat to a warm family welcome. Highways here are levelling up faster than our fitness goals.
