Day 12: more dykes by the Po, then a visit to Ferrara where we failed to get a restaurant table, despite not arriving at the middle of siesta this time (some festival going on). The dirtbag lunch in a park was delicious as usual. Got out from town following canals on a nice bike path between fields. Then more dykes and staying in a B&B on a horse farm.

Day 7: Arrived to Venice via ferry and learned the hard way that bikes are 100% forbidden, not even pushing is allowed, which we only realized when disembarking was denied at San Marco sq. Had to take the Lido ferry 3 times to park the bike there instead 🤦 At least they got no cars there either (not that the motorboats are nicer). Mostly soulless resorts en route, surprisingly good beach at Punta Sabbioni, few people only.

Day 6: Lignano Pineta to Duna Verde. Trip with two small ferries, found a very nice, quite natural and not crowded beach at Falconera/Vallevecchia and had a dirtbag lunch there (wine from carton, warm instant meal!). Then we crossed into a long and ugly resort strip and stayed in a four star camp site on the last day they were open (got some surprised looks at checkin). It’s a crossover of a camp site, Las Vegas and Disneyland.

Day 5: cycling around the lagoons of Grado and Marano, not seeing much water actually. The landscape is pleasantly uninteresting with impeccable cycling infrastructure, we only had to ride a few km in traffic, the rest was very good (often brand new) bike path and champagne gravel. Saw very few cyclists.

Day 4 (yesterday): took a 20min train ride to escape Trieste and started riding from Monfalcone. The cycling route follows the dykes, sometimes on top of them. The long awaited moment of spotting flamingos feeding in the lagoons also arrived! Good bike paths, almost no traffic. Everyone else is a German pensioner on ebike. Stayed at a camp site in Grado right by the beach.

On day 3 we cycled to Trieste.
Pro tip: there is a ferry from downtown to Muggia to skip the awful industrial port district of Trieste, running hourly, 6 EUR with bike. Useful when riding #EuroVelo8 or the #Parenzana trail.

Starting a cycling vacation today with my favorite person ❤️ Because the only way to convince her to do this was to include a “warm sea” we are riding EuroVelo 8 from Trieste towards Venice, and beyond for 3 weeks. Today taking a train to Ljubljana.

* les barrières en quinconce
* les éclusesIl n'y a pas photo, les écluses sont bien plus pratiques pour les poussettes, les vélos et la fluidité. En plus, elles ne condamnent pas l'accès aux vélos cargos ou aux remorques.
Virez-moi ces barrières !
